Isnt it a great feeling knowing the US Army trusts you with a rifle, but not to ride your own motorcycle? I hate to say it, but get used to it! The military always seems to cater to the lowest common denominator, so if Private Pyle or Airman Snuffy buys a shiny new bike and kills themselves on it (which they do, every single year), the kickback from the top is to take away everyone's bike privileges.
When I was in the Air Force, even out of the school portion, you had to fill out a high risk activities worksheet before doing anything considered "risky" (Ironic, because I flew on a combat helicopter) and the boss (Commander) had to review it, and approve or deny it based on his assessments.
P.S. Do NOT ride your motorcycle while you are in student status, even on leave. If you get hurt, get ready for that Article 15. You are now government property. Cheers!

Eight year Army vet here, currently in Korea on assignment. One of the reasons why my bike is gone is because of the rules in the Army. You have to take a motorcycle safety basic and advanced class. Depending on your post you will have to take a sport bike class. Then you will have to do refreshers maybe once a year again depending on your post. You cannot ride without these requirements. If you do and wreck, they will bring UCMJ action on you. If you're lucky then a 4856. It just wasn't worth it to me anymore especially when I hardly rode anyways. Be prepared for a list of BS. I've been riding since coming in. It has only gotten worse over the years. It has never gotten better. Focus on AIT. They are looking for any reason to chapter people.
And yes you will fill out a riders packet and hope it doesn't get denied.

You can keep that Habu Sake! I never had the stones to try it...any alcohol with a dead snake in it is not for me!
Meggers, I feel your pain. I am an MSF instructor and active duty military, but Air Force. The regs are written here in EUCOM to keep soldiers from riding. Basically, if you don't already have an endorsement when you get here, you can't get one. I think the Army is out of control on this one.
I also don't understand why the military invests all this money to train new recruits and then looks for any reason to cut them a year later. INSANE. Talk about lack of fiscal responsibility...
