Damn, that's a lot of miles.. Even if you ride a lot.

It wouldnt be so bad but it runs 60 at 5500 rpms, so if I do it right it really means staying in town... and I don't prefer to stay in town. Ive got 410 slow miles left

See, not to ruffle any feathers but running low RPM's until the motor is broken in and everything gets seated is a load of crock to me, unless it's a fresh rebuilt motor. The manufactuarer has already ran it and put it through tests, which while doing so put the motor through it's break in period. IMO run it how you normally would and you'll be happier with the end results.

This is what I did tonight. I really baby the thing anyway so it's not much over, highway will even still mostly be around or under 6k.

Now if I can just figure out how to sit on it, lol.

Engine break in .... Controversial topic. Though I'm a fan of th hard break in method ive found it works better. Here is a link to how that's done if your curious. http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

I've never had to brake an engine in before... how can you tell the difference between treating it like a puppy and the hard break in method?

EDIT: Alright, after reading the article it would be apparent in power and wear.. Still wonder why they tell you to go so easy on it though.

Well I sure hope this guy is right!!

I've actually done this before with a 306 car engine before, but on the new bike i'm not sure what the previous owner did for the first 700'ish miles he had it, but the last 1500 or so haven't exactly been "easy" hahah
