I am not supporting one view or the other as there is no hard evidence on this topic aside form a few slightly flawed tests. Each bike is different. This is from a RC51 site, but he makes many good points. The gains that most people see are from the PC3, not the filter. It is rare to tune the bike with stock filters then swap them out and retune it with race filters. The stock Honda filter is capable of flowing more air than the engine can use, even with a PC3. His point is that due to the timing of the mods (filters always get changed before the tune), there are nearly no bikes with stock filters and custom maps to see what the actual capabilities are. Track engines have different needs. Anyway, read this and check the supporting links, it's pretty interesting.

Here is another good link where the 954 guy ran back to back. Saw 3HP gain with stock filters over his BMC Race.

And one more link to speedy's site with dyno sheets. He notes the other benefit, .75 lb weight reduction, WOOHOO. Note that he zero'd his map, so this would be your benefit with no PC3 essentially.

I've always kept things standard because I believe anyone as big as Honda knows exactly what they're doing...I've always found when you deviate from them you lose somewhere...maybe just a small hole in the midrange or somewhere else but it's like non standard exhausts..sure some give extra power higher up but at the expense of lower or midrange...they have made as besta compromise as possible between performance/economy/emissions etc...
but what do I know ...lol

Most all of the comparisons I've seen so far took place in like, 2003 ish... any links or experiences with even newer bikes than this?
