Default Hola Guys & Gals! First Question...

Hello All...

My name is Joseph and I live in Chandler, AZ. I have riden a lot when I was younger and decided to get another bike after years of debate. I found a great deal on a '96 CBR 600 F3. It needed a little work done, such as carb cleaning, new windshield, etc. I do have one stupid question and not even my new mechanic knows the answer. When I rode it the first time, it ran out of gas. I switched to what I thought was reserve (the info has been painted over) and it still wouldn't start. I think it might have been on reserve the whole time, but not for sure since I don't know which way is regular tank and which is reserve. Can anyone help me? Thanks so much. I don't want to run out of gas again

Welcome to CBRF Joseph!

Congrats on getting your F3.

Straight down is "regular" i.e. ON.

Thanks! That's what I thought and it was up..i.e reserve. LOL. Guess I will know better next time. When it does run out...does it take a while for the reserve gas to fill the lines so it will start again?

North is reserve, south is on, west is off... I've ran out of gas going uphill few times. I put it in reserve, wait about 20 second, crank it a few times...done...

Yep. You should also be able to see the "on" "off" and "res" on the bike. The tap has an arrow. Look close, because I got it backwards once! Pushing an empty bike is no fun.

Thanks guys! The bike has been painted, so you can no longer see the on/off/res on it. I will take the advice given and Never run out of gas again.

Yeah, that is what I said...then I ran dry on my Ducati. There is reserve light on the dash but I misjudged how long it was on. Not fun. I have run out of fuel twice (well, three times if you count that time at the track) in my life. I bet I'll do it again before it is all over. LOL.
