All of you just be happy you aren't in Ontario where if you are under 25 you can pay up to $400/month for liability only on a 600 Supersport.

Ah the joys of Ontario motorcycle ownership. Funny that a few provinces over (AB) you can get a year of insurance for half that...

This sounds right about on.
That's a good rate for NY and getting caught driving hammered. LOL

Liability with comprehensive (theft), but no collision for my '02 954 is about $280 per year for me (about $136 every six months).

I am 40 and live in middle TN.

I have mine with Progressive, under a partnership with USAA.
That said, if you are/were a servicemember or even if your parents were, you qualify for USAA coverage.

Also look for carriers with a multi-vehicle/policy discount. I have my car and home under USAA.

I would stay away from carriers like State-Farm, Allstate and Nationwide. They are BIG name companies who will charge BIG time. They are like a filet mignon steak when all you really need is a good hamburger.
SF might have really good customer service, but you will pay for it dearly.

Even though I have not taken it, a motorcycle safety course will drop your rates as well.

I've been thinking about joining the USCG reserves...would that put me eligible for USAA? I've heard they have really good rates...

Got a quote for $1,300 from Allstate. Ideally I'd like to be right around $1,000 (or cheaper). I'll keep looking!

lol @ joining the USCG reserve for cheaper insurance.

Keep looking around, man. Looks like you're getting closer at least.
Insurance is always pretty expensive on an RR w/full coverage, though.

You're 18, that's all they care about. You don't have enough of a driving record to care how clean it is. It sucks, but it's how they all work. Especially if you're about to buy a new sport bike.
