Just got installing my a kickass cpu heatsink and did one for my 8800GT yesterday. Its frosty in here. Burrrrrrr.


Got my Quad Core 6600 overclocked to 3GHz right now (stock is 2.4) and I'm idling at 33C down from 55C.


My 8800GT is idling at 32C down from high 40's, but the real kicker is when playing. Thing barely reaches 40C.




I can hit 3.6GHz on the stock chitty heatsink but when gaming it jumps up to 70C or higher. If I hit 4GHz I'll have a MASSIVE totem pole.

Nope and the heatsink is as smooth as butter with nickel plating.

I got the Enzotech heatsink and I sanded down my CPU till it was a mirror.

I think next build I'm not gona even get a case. I'm gona nail the mobo to the wall and use passive cooling and then stick a room fan on it.

Its not really worth lappin the cpu. The max gain I've see is 2 degrees. Not worth fudgin up the cpu and when you're gonna sell it how are people gonna know what it is. Ya you can take a pic of whats on screen, but that just makes it difficult.


The heatsink isnt even completely on the cpu so it should cool a little bit more. The backet is on top of two little things on the mobo so the heatsink is sssslightly tilted. Gonna have to grind some off the bracket.

Right now the best air heatsinks that I've seen is the Thermalright 120 extreme and this one. Then there is the heatsink/thermo pad combo ones. Believe the Monsoon II and Silent ninja (??) are the two big ones there.

mine runs at a constant 1.21 jigawatts

I wish i was a lil more knowledgeable (sp) when it comes to PC's. I play all of my games on PC (addicted to cod4 ..NY_420) and love the controls with the mouse/keyboard. I just ordered my PC through dell with the better graphics card ( radeon 6600 i think) seems to work pretty good and i show no lag when playing online (usually a 30-50 ping)

If for sure a 6600 then you mean Nvidia and that card is 4 - 5 years old. :D If its ATi you probably meant 2600 version. Thats the mid class. Well was. The 2900 was the king but now they came out with the HD 3870 (numbers numbers numbers [>:] ) and the dual HD3870 (has two gpu's on one board)

I put new heatsinks on my cpu (computer brain) and gpu (vid card).



I guess it would be like having an air cooled engine with small fins on the cylinder walls. Then changing out the cylinder walls with bigger/longer fins for better cooling. Or swapping out a stock rad with a BeCool 5 row rad.

I don't OC my ****, so I buy the cheap HS. I have however always wanted to setup liquid cooling on a system one day, just for the hell of it. I know my Antec 900 came with prefabbed holes for the water lines to go to the reservoir.

Not hard at all.

1. Delete vid drivers
2. Turn off pc, take out old vid card
3. Put in new vid card, start pc.
4. Windows will find new vid card, window will pop up asking to find drivers. Cancel out of it.
5. Pop in cd that came with new vid card. Install drivers. Restart pc.
6. Enjoy pc wood.

3.6GHz baby!!!! I'm rock hard right now. That's 1.2GHz over stock. She's running a little warm today (at 3GHz), but so far with 3.6GHz I'm idling (just got done playing crysis) at 43C and while playing crysis I topped at 58C.

STILL COOLER THAN THE STOCK HEATSINK!!!

I'll set my memory timing to auto so I can see how far I can overclock her.

I love it when the nerds come out to play. It makes me feel soo at home in this forum.

I wont even talk about the last computer I built. It was about 5 years ago and even then the parts where over 6 years old :-) the ting still runs so i must have done something right.

Seriously, I need someone from here to build my next PC. What could I build for say 800-900. I don't need a monitor or keyboard, I just need the case and all the goodies that go in it.

$900 would yeild you a pretty facking sweet computer. You don't need a crazy case. Go Intel, pay a tad more for their stability (not much at all, especially for what it's worth).

Anyone here could build a badass PC for $900 (not including monitor/key/mouse, etc/). That's a good deal of money to build you an upgradeable, dual-core, pci-e,DDR2, DirectX 10system... you could even do a RAID+1configuration for that kind of money. If you're interested, I'll create a shopping list for you on Newegg. Only because I am bored and it's been a while since I've built a system (not building it for you, just showing you an idea of what you could get).

I'm hoping to upgrade to atleast a 22" WS soon, I would go dual 19"s like I have at work, but I game more at home. Although, I have recently converted to using my home comp more. 24" would be nice, but I'm always broke.

I do use my 32" tv but the color just isnt as crisp as a pc monitor. They're always lighter.
