I feel like an idiot asking this
I thought this was interesting: an 'acronym' is actually a word formed from initials or parts of other words, such as RADAR, from radio detecting and range.
Something like FTW is termed an 'initialism', which is much more boring, and can only be verbally spelled out letter by letter.
