Home Theater
I am getting ready to upgrade from my ten year old 36" television in my basement. I think that i have narrowed my options a somewhat, and i just wanted some other opinions and suggestions. My first option i am considering is this Samsung 67" LCD DLP. Another way i am thinking of going is the projection route with something like this Mitsubishi Electric HC5000.
My basement, where this will be going, only has two small windows and does not get much light down there at any time of the day, so I don't really have to take that into consideration. Also this will mostly be for video games, sports, and just some regular tv watching.
So what do you guys have, and what would you recommend?

I currently have a Planar projector on a 96in screen. For speakers I'm using Klipsch Reference series RF82's towers, RC62 center, RS52's surrounds, and Elemental designs A5-350 subwoofer (sub will be delivered in two weeks). All of this is being run off and Onkyo 805, Sony BDP 350 Blu Ray player, and Xbox 360.
Upstairs I have a Panasonic 50in PZ85U, Denon 2808 receiver, *** HD cable box, Panasonic BD30 Blu Ray player, and using JBL SCS 500.5 Satellite speaker package.

I have a 52" sony bravia LCD bought it about 9 months ago, i love it!!!!!!
my recommendation would be as follows:
if you dont already own a plasma or LCD i would pick that up before you get a projection (for the love of god dont get an LCD DLP) they are a must have, for games, movies, or just tv in general. everything looks incredible in HDTV especially blurays..
If your going to be playing games, watching tv or movies definetly go with the LCD. especially for games...
Now if you already own an LCD or Plasma, then i'd look into getting a projection for the basement, im looking into one myself. but i would FOR SURE, get the HDTV first...

Plasma's are great for games as well. Burn in is a thing of the past, especially if you get a Panasonic. I play games on my Panasonic as well as my front projector all the time and both look amazing and have no issues.
Dang Triax, you must be ballin outta control. lol Sounds like you got over 6gs in "home theater", I ain't got that much invested in anything (except the house). You ever get bored with those Klipsches, I ain't too proud for handouts. j/k +1 on the Sony Dr. F. I heard they got some new tech coming out soon 3D HD. Be patient and blow some dough on that. I'd love to play some mario bros in 3D. lol
if you do get a plasma games can leave a slight burn like if your playing a game that has display that never moves like a speedometer or somthing like that. the burn in will go away after a little bit. I have a 50 inch samsung 720p plasma and it has pixel shift technology built into it to also help prevent burning in images, just dont pause your game and walk away for 5 hours and come back and expect it to be alright. also to save some money get the 720p over the 1080i cause the picture difference is so miniscule that spending the extra 500 to 1200 for the 1080i is just not worth it (at least not in my eyes) and stay away from the DLP cause you have to change out the bulbs in them every 3 or 4 years which cost about 500 bucks.
I used to sell tv's at best buy and now is the time to buy because the new models are coming out and they will start to clearance off the old ones. i picked up my 50" for 800 off two years ago!!!

Utter05 is correct, it is currently the time of year the tv industry starts rolling out its new product so yes you can get some great deals. Their are a lot of things to look into when purchasing a tv and don't rule out any particular type of tv because of hear say. I sell plasma's all day long to people that say they will only buy LCD's and visa versa.
Feel free to email me if you have any particular questions I can further help you with.
