Is Highway Privatization a Threat to Bikers?
Was browsing around, and stumbled across this piece of information. Seemed quite interesting topic.
“Welcome to Colorado Interstate W-470, brought to you courtesy of the Northwest Parkway Authority.”
What’s that? Aren’t interstate highways owned and operated by the federal government? Well, that’s the way it used to be, but in this age of trying to reduce spending and cut budgets, more and more of the public infrastructure is being handed over on long-term leases to private, for-profit entities. The Northwest Parkway Authority is not one of these; it is in fact a creation of several local jurisdictions, but this is a variation of the same theme.
The issue is whether these private operators will have to ability to impose different restrictions than those for federally operated highways. This was one of the concerns voiced last weekend at the Motorcycle Riders Foundation’s Meeting of the Minds here in Denver. What might happen? Well, in Chicago, for instance, several years ago the city council passed an ordinance banning motorcycles from Lakeshore Drive after a certain hour of the night. The issue was excessive noise from bikes disturbing the folks living nearby. The problem was that that stretch of Lakeshore Drive is a U.S. highway, and federal law prohibits the kind of restriction Chicago wanted to impose. The ordinance was overturned.
But what if Lakeshore Drive were operated by a for-profit “Lakeshore Drive Agency”? Would they have gotten away with it?
There really isn’t a clear answer but that’s what the MRF is concerned about. They want to make sure that there is a clear answer enacted into law, and that that clear answer holds that federal policies DO apply and cannot be ignored. It takes relationship building with legislators and congressmen, lobbying, and a lot of behind-the-scenes hard work. Just figured you needed to know.

that has to be some sort of discrimination..and noise please..my car is way louder than my bike..if my bike and car are both sitting next to eachother idoling you wouldnt be able to tell my bike was on...not to mention if a semi with air breaks is riding by..or one of those nasty as$ rice burners with a coffee can for exhaust...im really starting to not like America..go ahead some one bash me for that i dare you... this country is becoming a liberal, socialist, fat & nasty country. this is not the type of place that our founding fathers invisioned...does any one notice that they are slowly taking our rights away? over the last year i have become increasingly discusted with this govt, and citizens of this country.

ebinz got a couple of replys.. first off directed at you and havoc..i dont think havoc expects to be treated any differant because he is a mod..and to this is kind of a subconscious thing..but i have always felt and noticed what people capitalize as far as proper nouns go, usually has something to do with what they care about. for instance i always capitalize Marine, America, Kimberly (my wife) and other friends names who i deeply care for. and yet when its something im not really wrapped up in i dont care to capitalize it..anyways to my finding. in your post you wrote "america" twice no capitalization, "America" once no caps.and "Iraq" once capitalization. now this could and probably does mean absolutly nothing. but its something that i notice. and dude dont ever question my love for this country go back and read my post a little carefully and actually pay attention to what is being said.. saying things like "Move to Iraq and tell me how much you hate america." when did i say that i hated America? and not from ebinz but from havoc "^ move to a communist country, then talk about having your rightS taken away" pretty sure i said slowly taking away our rights..and are they not?
