Default highbeam question....

well a few weeks ago i met up w/ a old co-worker who is a much more experienced rider and as i pulled up to meet him he told me to turn my highbeams on. he said its best to just keep them on while driving at all times. i didnt, but i think about it while im riding. for obvious reasons it will help me to be seen, but at the same time i dont want to blind dear old Agnes into hitting me head on. is it a good idea to leave them on at all times?

any input....i know its a dumb question probably just personal preference, but i was wondering if anyone else on here does that.

The high beams are like shouting or using curse words...

..they will call attention to yourself, but are SOOO much more effective when used only for special occasions.

If your regular beam doesn't give you enough visibility, try aiming it a little higher, (and make sure you replace it regularly, incandescent bulbs get dim WAY bfore burning out)

its not that i cant see good enough w/ the low beam. it was just a question as to whether or not its safer to ride during the DAY w/ the highbeam on (sorry, lol......i should have specified that). so yes, im talking about riding in the daytime w/ it on.

thanks for the innput though, bro.

I turn it off during the day and i leave them running all the time at night. IMO leave them on, you want to be seen. Just like WhiteDealershipRicesaid, its like shouting, you want people to know where you are. You are saying "Hey! You! Yes you! Moron on the cell phone, you are not the only one on the road!"

Reason I like leaving them off is it gives you the option of flashing something brighter at someone that's being innatentive, (as opposed to having them already on, and having to go dim before being able to go bright again, a lot less attention getting)

also you should check with local laws. in some areas it is illegal to use your high beams @ night unless its in a needed situation. id hate to see you get pulled over for something stupid but on the flip side with all the dumbasses out there who say "hey you have a head light out!" i think it would be worse to get pulled over for the latter. personally i use low beam during the day, high beam @ dusk and low @ night unless the situation calls for highs.
