Helmet Question
So I was just checking out the Arai Jolly Roger helmet. Totally awesome, but the cheapest i could find one was $550 and that was on e-bay. I have a cheapo SparX helmet right now, paid like 200 or something for it, maybe less. The question I have is what kind of helmet(s) do you own. Is there that big of a difference between say a shoei or arai and some cheaper helmet? I mean they are all gonna do what they are designed to do (hopefully we'll never have to find out). Anyway, what do you think is it just the name or are they that much better. Let me know before I actually buy one of these bad boys, see ya later hibernators.
I'm no expert, but I'm guessing you just pay for the name. They're all DOT/snell approved, and they all do the same thing. The only real differences in them is the paint and the vents and such.
And then you have the Bluetooth/tint-on-demand helmets Akuma came out with (or should be coming out with soon)

I got a fortune cookie the other day... It said...A search will be helpful if you don't get the answers you seek.
Shoei RF1000, it fit my fat head the best so I assume it will protect my fat head the best.

They all do the same, but the more expensive helmets I think, from trying different ones, are more comfortable. And the fit and finish of the more expensive ones are apparent as well.
i'll just reiterate.........
a $800 Arai is just as safe as a $80 Bell from Walmart. you're paying so much more for the Arai/AGV/Suomy yada yada b/c its much much lighter (which you will notice), it will vent so much better than a cheaper helmet, and of course that fancy designs on them.

I think its important to get a helmet with the right certifications, but my 2cents is this. You get what you pay for. I've riddin with cheap Snell/DOT helmets and it feels like I'm wearing a bowling ball. No stability at speeds, noisy, uncomforable, cheap visor systems, bad venting, cheap material etc. Spend the few extra dollars ifyour gonna be wearing it a lot.
I wear KBC because the outer shell is about the same dimensions as Shoei or Arai but not quite the price. Very comfy, quiet, well built

I've ridden around with a friend's Arai, and it's like sex, felt so good. lol. I think it made my fat asian head lighter.

again, i feel safety wise...they're all the same. but comfort......extreme differences. i have a Icon that is pretty comfy, too much air gets it though, its noisy.
i also have a KBC....it feels likei strapped a brick to my head, uncomfortable as it could possibly be.
my g/f has a HJC and it feels just like my KBC.
therefore, i wouldnt want either of those brand helmets again.

I have a Scorpion EXO-700, and I'm pretty pleased, although I should've got one size smaller, cause the padding inside definately over time has gotten beaten up and there's a bit more play in it now.
