Default Hamburger Hill

just watched this. never seen it before (until now, obviously)but heard alot about it, and heard people ranking it up there w/ 'full metal jacket'. the movie wasnt ABSOLUTELY amazing, as its kinda old now.....but a good war movie none the less. i enjoy a good war movie. i think what made it more interesting was knowing someone who was in that war. a friend of mine's father was in the Vietnam war. he's 100% blind now, cant tell day from night, cant see a flashlight infront of his face (caused by the Agent Orange they sprayed over the jungle). always heard stories from him, crazy stuff for SURE!

anyone else seen this?

Hamburger Hill is classic. Its probably one of the best portrayal of the Vietnam conflict.

Yea war sucks *****. I was one of those adrenaline junkies who joined the military right after 911 thinking that I was gonna get me some. Well I did three combat tours in Iraq and I've lost a lot of friends, some that are younger than I am and left kids behind. Im lucky to be alive and still in one piece. Its not the same as Vietnam was and I cant even imagine the things those guys went through. What sucks the most is the we neglect a lot of these veterans by not giving them care

my friends father gets taken care of pretty well from the VA Clinic. he used to be able to see alteast day from night, but not anymore. i know people in those situations dont want you to feel sorry for them, but its hard not to. i couldnt imagine waking up each day and not be able to tell whether its day or night. not to mention the things he HAD seen, that are engraved in his mind. couldnt even imagine........

he's happy as could be though. he always had friends stopping by checking on him, drives some of the cars/trucks in the driveway around to move them/wash them haha. he knows his house/yard like the back of his hand....amazing to see.

Oh I agree with you friend. Servicemembers dont get that much first of all and while the benefits may be good, its not all what its cacked up to be. I've seen a lot of folks get screwed and not get the care that they need due to circumstances that they cant do anything about. Unfortunately, as much as our leaders want to provide everything that we need to fight the fight and be taken care of, it costs too much money. I really have no one to blame or point a finger to. I just do my duty till my contract runs out (1.5 year left! Been in for almost 7 years now)

Anyhoo we are getting off topic here.. Im sorry moderators and everyone else..

The problem with almost all governments worldwide, is that the people who decide when a nation goes to war, are not the people on the ground who have to do the fighting. They are also not the ones who carry the psychological and physical wounds of war with them their whole lives. I'm a firm believer in putting the politicians in harm's way before troops are deployed. If we did, most wars wouldn't be fought at all.
The casualties of war are an embarrassment to politicians, and voting more money for care of the wounded and disabled just highlights the problem, yet billions are spent when corporations fail, and crooked CEO's walk away with severance packages in the millions. The people have to foot the bills, and the 'grunt on the ground' is always worst off.
The whole system is ***-backwards.
A thread-jack too, sorry but needed to be said.
Hamburger hill was and is a great movie.
