Default Had to renew my tag today...

My birthday's coming up next week...those bastards want 387 for a new tag for my car!!! I was like WTF? Apparently they go by the approximate value of the car based on a percentage... my bike was 87 bucks... dropped a cnote and barely had enough for lunch ... just for the bike! It is crazy expensive in every state or just here?

What a scam. For my car and bike it comes out to be $60. $30 for each vehicle regardless of value. I live in Jersey btw.

well i would say move to illinois to help yourself there...but then you'd have to go to wisconsin everytime you wanted to ride on a road that had turns on it so...

$25.00 / year for a car.

$18.00 / year for a bike here in NM.

Mine is now at $33.00 / year because of the vanity plate I just ordered.

Where is the OP located? If in CA, I understand they have been basing the fees on car value for quite a while. I think they should exclude the first $5k in value from that tax, if they already don't do so. At least that would help the less fortunate pay their other bills on time.

I got new plates and the total was $48 for the year for my bike. (Ohio) The sign says $28 at the door, but they hit you with plate fees, registrar fees, and "tax". My truck was $60 when I did the renewal back in March. We also do not have to get bikes inspected, but inspections are required if you had a salvage title and are getting the bike back on the road.
