as a LEO you know they see bike accidents involving riders with and w/o gear, they of most other non-riders should know and promote the use of gear, not discourage it. sounds like you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

oh yeah, was this a Texas State Trooper? im assuming you are in TX from txn_driver's comment?
KC is a LEO...?

That's...not surprising.
thats not what i meant. i meant as they are LEO, you know that THEY see.

and if you do not consent to a search of your vehicle, they can run a drug dog around your car, if it hits on something, that is probable cause to search and they will do it. dont you guys watch cops?

Jeezus dude - haven't you wrapped your bike up yet and moved on... ? Get a life.

Also, I never said cops were mind readers or fortune tellers, but they're are numerous, legal methods of detecting crimes in preperation for commission. Rape kits, burglar tools, loose stereo equipment - the list goes on.

I never once insinuated that anyone should give up liberties simply because, "if you have nothing to hide..." By all means, use your rights, but do it with tact. Trust me, the guy pulling you over has had more legal classes and training than you have. That doesn't mean he gets to walk all over you, it just means use your head. Don't be an ***, and if you're riding around 5 over or with expired plates or a shortened exhaust... DONT BITCH HERE WHEN YOU GET PULLED OVER AND THINK THAT THEY'RE PICKING ON YOU!

I never once claimed that the cops weren't being a bit harsh.

My only point is this. After reading 100 threads a month about, "cops being dicks," followed by the poster describing his own admitted smartass behavior towards the officers. It's reall not surprising, and as always, theretwo both sides to every story. It's a crap shoot to imagine how much of any of the story actually places attitude responsibility where it belongs.

\My biggest point is this, let's assume your only knowledge of how officers treat people were by reading this forum. You're riding down the street and you get pulled over.

Knowing only what you have read here, does being a smartass sound like theyour option? Didn't think so...

Who in the fu*k is this guy talking to?

The quote in the post...and the idiotic and safe by internet only rant afterwards...have nothing to do with each other.

I think its pretty easy to figure out what hes talking about, and what hes saying. Hes trying to let everyone know that being a smartarse to the cops, (if you get pulled over) is not a wise decision and will probably end up with you getting a ticket for everything they can think of. Its pretty common sense here, someone pisses you off and you get back at them.(And I'm not saying its fair, just legal).

(IE) You get smart and smart off to the cops after they "probably" have a legit reason to stop you. Now you've metaphorically "spit in their face". Here comes your ticket...

I have been pulled over before, and I was nice and polite with them for a minor offense and I was given a warning and let off. Could have been rude to them, yes. But I probably would have recieved a $100+ ticket.

As for the search, hes just saying there are legal ways for a cop to check your stuff even after asking you. I know in the state of Ohio, if you get stopped they have approximately 15 minutes to hold you, then it becomes unreasonable. So if they want to walk a dog past your vehicle/bike in that 15 minutes they have every legal reason too. Past that, tough on them.

I know I am new here, but this thread is starting to derail and I'd really like to see a more constructive thread then the beginning of a flame fest as its turning into.

I know the point of the thread...and I have been pulled over...and I'm always respectful. I have always been treated with respect by the few cops I have run into. Well, except for one...but his ploy didn't work and ultimately he was both wrong and ended up looking like a fool.

The point I was getting at...is that you don't earn anyone's respect...least not mine...unless you first or also treat and give respect.

Hurling insults, profanity, and basically having an attitude that needs...correcting...will get you nowhere.

Nowhere nice anyway.

Now maby they'll start doing some sweet racial profiling action to huh? Comone man... "Looking like trouble" is NOT JUST CAUSE!!!! I might look funny and "bad" but I feel it's my right to wear what I want.
I'm sorry to hear about all this crap man. Which direction were you headed - the cops here in Austin have REALLY started to pick up on grabbin the bikes for no reason. The problem is that here they are finding alot of stuff on people.

Doesn't seem like no good reason to me.
