RE: freeways
For me living near Seattle, there almost always seems to be heavy traffic on the freeways. So I always get people changing lanes into me , not checking blind spots, not using blinkers, people using cell phones, lap tops (only once have I seen that). So I seem to pay a little more attention on the freeways then on the side streets.

Yo Cold,
I used to be intimidated on them. Felt like the wind gusts from the semis were going to blow me off the road, had cars passing at 85+, worried about rough roads due to construction, but I just did little bits at first. I'd hit one exit to the next one a few times, and after just a few times, I felt fine on the freeway. You just have to go out there and do it. Like anything else, you are most intimidatedby those things you are unsure of. Go for it!

RE: freeways
I took the 5 to work when I was in San Diego and when I occasionally rode to work there is a spot where the5 hits the 805 and you get 8 beutiful lanes at your disposal
and when i say at your disposal I mean you have 8 lanes of traffic to worry about ontop of the rollercoasterish dips careful not to grab some air

RE: freeways
I don't particularly care for the one piece of highway that has scared the sh*t out of me as of yet. A tight 45 degree sweep with textured pavement (the little lines they dig in to the concrete to PREVENT accidents I guess??) and a posted 70 mph speed limit. Bike just starts going all over the place......
