Been driving on my permit for the past year and putting off the license test. Finally went and took it yesterday and passed with 100%. Super excited so I took a victory lap around the county afterwards before heading home. lol

It got me wondering though, who else is just driving on a permit or has their license.

 

There is no such thing as a permit here. How does that work anyway?

 

in ohio, you take a written test, then you get a permit. Its good for one year. the restrictions are:

no driving at night
no driving on interstates
no doubling
must wear a helmet

Anytime within that year you can take the driving test and get your actual license.

 

It varies be state, here the rules are

• No motorcycle riding at night.
• You must ride under the supervision of another licensed rider who is 21 years or older and has at least one year of experience riding motorcycles.

so no solo riding is allowed

 

Ive been on my permit for about 2 years. lol

Im supposed to ride with someone over 21. Around here there are plenty of people who dont have any type of endorsment. Cops are happy to see i actually have it so they dont give me any trouble.

I just havent taken the test because im lazy. To take the test i have to bring someone in a car so they can carry the DMV person and follow me on the road while i ride around the block. Stupid as hell but whatever. When i need to renew my license 2 years ill take the test. lol

 

How do you ride with someone over 21? like on the back?


The following you in a car thing is pretty strange. Ohio's test just consists of a parking lot cones test.

It's much more time and (especially) money here to get a license but that's not the topic. Congrats on the license! Are you going to celebrate it by taking a 2up night ride on the interstate without a helmet? (Just kidding about the helmet thing. )

 

They just have to be following you either on a bike or in a car. I guess its like a mentor thing.

 

way to go! I had mine for about 6 months then took the MSF so the driven part got waived for me... the MSF such a good deal, 10% off insurance, no driven test, and all the knowledge you get

 

I took the MSF class and after passing you can go to the DMV here and have the endorsement added right away.
