Default Fiberglass body work

Hey everyone got a few questions, mainly for the paint and body people here. I had a few fiberglass repair kits given to me and it got me to thinking, is it possible for me to use the fiberglass repair kits to make a fiberglass fender for my bike and use the OEM fender as the mold? I have been interested in learning to do body work on my bike for a bit now and im kinda strapped for cash at the moment otherwise id just buy new ones or take it to the body shop for them to make a fiberglass one for me. Also, my gas tank has one large dent in the left side, i was wondering could I pop that out or is it just best to suck it up and go and get an new tank or one from the junkyard? what would be the proceedures for making a fiberglass fender using the OEM as the mold? thanks for any and all help.

Hey there, long time no see!

I think you can make a new piece from that, but it would be slightly bigger than the original. Typically, they make an outer mold of the piece and then make the new piece from that mold, which should give it the same dimensions and shape as the original. Might wanna wait on some of the more experienced FG peeps, Ive never done it, just researched it. I just wanted to say hi anyways.

We didnt get anything from Ike. We were supposed to, but it turned north. All the HEBs were mad-houses; out of water, canned food, running out of gas. I'm still drinking the water I bought...lol.

Yes, you can do everything you asked about. I'm at work right now, so I can't spell it out for you, but I'd be glad to give you a walkthrough on the process for both laying fiberglass AND fixing your tank. If you can, get me a pic of the tank dent, and I can give you a better answer when I post up later tonight.

Holy big-*** pic batman! Thanks for that. If possible, get me a pic of the good side too, so I can see what's bent where, and how badly. Oh, and btw, the name is Jack...
