I don't get the idea that because you have a sportbike you speed and all that stuff. How many times have I heard "what, and you don't speed?" Really, I don't. On normal everyday commutes and streets, I might push 5-8 over the limmit or so, but don't blast it just cause I'm on a bike. The only time I really push it is on the twisties out in BFE with one or two other riders, zero traffic and a guy riding sweep to make sure no-one gets left behind. I have a hard time believing that speeding and tearin it up is the norm or is expected cause you ride a sportbike.

Sandstorm? Birthday gift? 25 Miles straight? NO COPS in this country?...Oil money maybe. At 150mph they are lucky they didn't hit a camel. Glad to hear he is bouncing back. That guy should really reconsider his desire ti ride, he doesn't have the common sense. Some people never get fast on two wheels, but some people just belong on 4.

I have to agree with TheX on this. Not setting a good example to a new rider. From the original post it seems like this was his very first bike, but then later it sounded like he's ridden before. I'm a little confused by that one.
If it was a new rider that you or anyone is with, it's best to not push anything, because "monkey see, monkey do". And it usually ends with "monkey can't". It was also the guy's fault that crashed. Should not try to keep up and certainly not pass like that at those speeds.
I'm guilty of speeding. On roads i'm familiar with I'll do 15 over, but certainly nothing crazy. It's not a race, I'll get home in one piece. I know my limits and what can happen in an instant with all variables on a public roads. I'll also shoot up to 100 on a 4 lane then back down to the speed limit if there's no cars around or access roads or side roads. Other than that, I won't go any faster. Not worth it.

In any event, the guy's lucky to be alive. Doesn't quite sound like he'll be like he was before though. I do wish him, family and friends all the best and a full recovery.

This is a tragic story I'm sure we all hate to hear. Could it have been avoided - yes, should it have been avoided - yes, but unfortunately it was not. Every one will have an oponion on who to blame and how to pass blame, we all need to understand this. Simo1000rr let people vent. You put your business on a public board and I'm sure you expected the worse. Some will suport you, some will blame you, and other will hate you. You are going through a lot right now emotionally and be strong hopefully your friend will recover. You and your family( they will be effected by this incedent too) your friend and his family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Let this be a learning experience to all of us on the dangers of riding especially at extreme speeds. there is a time and a place for everything a heavy or even a semi heavy traveled roadway is never the place even thought the time may feel right. TheX I do understand your fustration too as well as the others that disagree with the riding style of others. We will all react differently to situations like this. We all need to ride within our limits. Simo1000rr you accept partial blame but you are not fully to blame. Your friend could have backed down, he did not have to try to follow or pass between a vehicle and a divider, but he choose to possible to keep up with or impress you. We may never know his reasoning. We have to police our selves before incidents like this happen. Best of luck.

i feel bad for the guy that he was so reckless and clueless of how dangerous that chance/risk could be. I dont blame the leader who was riding. I've got ******** at every stoplight, intersection or road that wants me to do wheelies, or act like im nicky hayden on dangerous roads, you put yourself in check, we can't blame other people for taunting us or instigating us to doing things that we KNOW we aren't capable of. when the leader samo took off, he could of just said thats way too fast for me and not throttled up, but HE chose to accelerate and almost kill himself. its called personal responsibility and i dont buy into the liberal "he told me" bull**** excuses, X. some ******* tells me to jump off a bridge do i do it no, i just laugh when the other guy goes splat. the only thing samo did was drive wreckless and not get hurt.

I give major props to TheX... what he said was completely necessary and worthy. Sorry dude you deserved to get flamed and it will be mentioned to the boards I visit too. Completely avoidable and unnecessary. If you want to test your bike go to a track day, least there your friend would have had a fighting chance where an instructor would have pulled him off for being overconfident and dumb.

Sorry to hear about your friend. I'll keep him in my thoughts. Not to sound like and a**hole but roads are made to commut and race tracks are ment to go fast on. You should always know your limits.

I realize I am a new member here, and am not trying to rock the boat or make any enemies.....but WHY would you, and experianced rider I am guessing, be out riding that aggressively with a new rider?
And why in heck would this guy own that beast as a first bike?

That was a recipe for disaster from the get go.

I admittedly didn't read through the whole thread, my bad. Hope the guy is ok. I also hope that other people reading this thread learn something from that foolishness.
Take some time, learn how to ride before taking things to that extreme, and DO IT ON THE TRACK!
