Default False advertisement?

Do you think a company that you order parts from on a website should advertise things for sale that they DONT have in stock? I think its like a store advertising a product in a ad in the newspaper and you go to the store and they dont have it (i understand the whole rain check idea). Not endorsing or bashing any particular company.....just my thoughts. I like the way xxxxxxx.com stocks what they sell and atleast they tell you on their website that it is out of stock or on back order. Any input.......

It's just bad business if you ask me.
I can understand a small company maybe having trouble updating inventory or whatever, but mostly I think it's just a way for companies to get more money on stuff they don't have.
I hate the chit, and it's aggravating as hell.

Beyond pissed on this one. Thought I'd save $20 bucks on my bike alarm going through a 'distributor' instead of direct from the manufacturer. We're close to week 3 and it just shipped today. I called the manufacturer on Friday about another product they sell. They were out but I inquiried about the alarm:

"We can ship it today overnight if you like"

Too many online 'stores' have gone the route of drop shipping

yeah i have definitely learned my lesson with this one. Next time i will give them a call as Classic stated. I dont know why i had so much confidence that they stocked what they advertise, i mean after all that does make too much sense.

More and more "performance" part sellers online are not keeping much (if any) stock and are drop shipping items from the manufacturer. I bought a full set of rotors for my car and it took 6 weeks to arrive. The pads I bought from Tire Rack were at my door in 3 days.

The pads were $60 and the Rotors were $375... I was annoyed to say the least. Fortunately I didn't need to do the brakes right away...
