personally i think they are kind of tacky. the inhibit airflow (though it is minimal) and add weight. on top of that they usually look kind of crappy. if you really want them you can get them at auto parts stores. they are cut to fit and you can buy the aluminum mesh in differant anodized colors. as far as painting i'm not sure how it would hold up

actually, you do it right and it looks great...i am doing it to my bike...i actually bought stuff made for this purpose sold in square sheets...it's slightly better than the generic chicken wire fencing stuff you buy at the depot, that's what a lot of people put on, i bought mine for around $25 bucks and doesn't suffer from burs as opposed to the home depot stuff...i am installing it before my bike goes to paint...so long as you primer it, it paints no problem....

as for jp, you probably just haven't seen it done right... ... and there is little to no weight addition, and there is no way it inhibits airflow, especially not on the lower fairings.

prove me wrong [sm=ttiwwp.gif]if you can make it look good it might be worth the little extra weight and air blockage. but you cant say it doesnt restrict air flow can you. take a tube and tube with mesh in it and a fan. which one will allow more air through? i know it isnt that big of a deal but still...

well i haven't done it yet...but i don't think he was talking about covering the intake vents...rather the fairing openings on the SIDE of the bike

and you honestly think a piece of vented thing aluminum adds a lot of weight...the piece i have maybe weighs an ounce or two...nothing to affect the bike

you can buy the mesh at a home depot, though it's a little more "rough"...or you can buy it at http://www.newenoughhp.com/track_gar...h_screens.html
