Damn - walked into our local Chrysler dealership with my 3 year old one time - right at the service desk he asks if he can see the monkeys. - SMOOTH - Made me laugh though.

outsidr8 - You already read one of my Dodge horror stories- Chevy dealer treats me right, Ford has been bad in the past, but is improving, Pontiac/Buick treat me like a king. - Every one is different (on different days and times of day too).
stealerships screw the techs harder then they do the customers, this is often why these horror stories happen-the good techs quit!!
if there are any monkeys at dealerships, they are the service managers and advisors, the ones that tell you what you want to hear-rather
then what you need to know-these *** clowns are treated like royalty andthe techs are treated like garbage
i am glad to hear that you found a service dept that you like, they are getting harder to come by

i can kind of understand what he says about monkeys. there is a difference between a tech and a mechanic in my eyes ive worked with both. i for one take pride in my work i am a gm world class technician i currently have thirteen ase certifications including two advanced level certs. i do my job right and i do it quickly when a car leaves that i worked on it leaves right. i have worked with plenty of people that do not care or are to ignorant to even be alowed to touch a car let alone work on one. these arethe people that give us a bad name. these people do not care what kind of work they do they just do the work and if it comes back people like me fix it. sorry to rant i just hate working with stupid people that cant do their job.

Every profession has this problem!

Finding the guys that know their stuff is very difficult. - It's funny too - the people who are good at fixing (at least from what I've seen) are usually the best to give great advice on how to do fixes, and if you have them do the work, they charge a fair price.

If i can not do the work myself i take the bike to the dealership and they get it done quick. I am not a fan of ma and pa shops.

that sux bro. i do not trust nobody. i hold on to any of my possessions if they have to wait for a part. i mean all its gonna do is collect dust at the least, and then you got other people browsing while dropping off their stuff. i'de rather keep it where i know it will be safe and under a cover. i know its probably easy for me to say since i have another bike to ride...

I agree .The good techs are the ones that take all the crap and since the stealerships dont care and dont take of them ,they soon leave.Leaving the guys that could careless.I work in a shop of 40 techs.Counting myself there is only 5~6 techs ,the managers actually TRUST to get it done right. But in the real world they have to have monkeys too.I know guys with ase's that have trouble figuring out a blown fuse.
But the issues with treating techs bad and issues generally stem out of domestic shops. Most import dealerships tend to take care of there techs. So in turn you get better car (even from the monkeys) because they are happy.

Ive been in the auto industry for over 18 years,2 years with GM (worse years of being a tech). And the last 16 with toyota. 10 ASE's and a certified toyota master diagnostic tech.My stealership hates if i even joke about leaving..But the industry is finally coming around and good techs are starting to get what they deserve(at least at the import shops)..IM one of the few techs i know that is on a flat rate/salary..

Now horror stories ,I have a few of them and being a tech its been hard to swallow seeing idiots work on your stuff.
My 99 mustang gt had 9k miles(less than a year old) on it and the carrier bearing in the rear end started making noise..Drove out of my way to one of the " so called best" mustang dealers around(30 miles out of my way).Dropped the car off and got a ride to work(6am) came back a 7pm that night to find they did not HEAR anything wrong with it[:@].Nicely i got the shop foreman and test drove with him ,he told me what i already knew it had a bad rear bearing..They put me in a car and rebuilt the rear end..They called me the next day and said it was ready.Dropped off the rental and picked up my car.Noise was now gone but i had picked up a HORRIBLE vibration at speeds over 60mph. Took it back the next day ,again being nice ,they put in a rental. They kept the car for TWO weeks.Callled me up and said the vibration was from the clutch and it wasnt under warrenty(9 k miles LOL).I told them i would pay for it if it fixed the vibration but i wasnt gonna pay for it ,if the issue wasnt fixed.THey said they couldnt do that..

Picked up the car ,installed a new clutch in it myself.Vibration still there. The dealership said there is nothing else we can do for you.. Decided to take it over to a buddies shop and pull the rear end apart..FOund out that the only thing they did was replace ONE race, nothing else. But yet my reciept said they had replaced the carrier bearings, posi clutches, ring and pinion and pinon bearing..It took a impact hammer to get the pinion out of the case..

Installed all new parts myself and the vibration was gone..My car has never been back to a dealer again.Except my wifes car but i get paid to work on it since its a new toyota

LOL Lets not even talk about the ones that have issues racking a car [8D]. Im with you on the 40wk thing, esp when you are heading towards the holidays. .MInes a little higher but you gm guys make more money per hour than us import techs. So it all equals out.

now i have no idea what in the hell to do. today, a friend of mine called his personal cellphone # that i macigally got, and the guys name that i deal w/ is "Shane", when i found out his cell # and addy, i was told his name was "Shannon"......which makes Shane a nickname, obviously. when my friend called, he said "i'd like to speak to shane", the guy said "this is his brother Shannon, i'll give him YOUR # and have him get intouch w/you". now, i called a few hours later and said the same.....that i needed to speak to shane, the voice on the other end sounded ALOT like the guy shane that i've been dealing w/. he told me he'd give shane my number, but his name was Shannon...then when i tried to give him my # hehung up on me.

i have his home address but not sure if i have to take it THAT far yet. i was supposed to have my bike monday, i still dont have it. to make matters worse, i apperantly cannot in any way get intouch w/ the guy from the shop. if i go there during ANY of their buisness hours, he's never there (or anyone else), and no matter what time i call, i never get an answer.

idk what exactly i need to do. but i dont appreciate that he has $5K worth of my property and i have no way to get ahold of him.

Default RE: f**k motorcycle shops! (update!)

well here's an update on my bike...

i went by thursday and he was there, he told me his wife had a package at the house and that it was more than likely my sensor. he said he'd call me when he got home and if it was my part...........i never heard from him. so its saturday and i go by his shop and he's not there. but a guy in a shop nextdoor leads me on a path to catch his ***, along w/ telling me that he rerely comes to the shop and he is infact going out of buisiness! so i get intouch w/ a guy who has the key and he unlocks the door, alarm sounds and he didnt have his list of number codes to turn off that building's alarm. he calls the guys mother and she calls her son (Shane) to come to the shop and open it up. when he arrives, he tells me that my bike is AT his house! so i get my g/f to give me a ride there......he was pissed about the entire situation but there's too much for me to go into and this post will be HUGE! i get to his house and he tells me this bull**** line about how the speedo sensor wasa pain to get yada yada backordered yada yada. as i start my bike to leave, he tells me "i'll go ahead and give you a call when the part does come in"................for WHAT?!?!?! like im going to bring it back to you!

called a guy that owns a shop farther from my house, long story short.........took it to him today, he guarentee's i get it back tuesday morning and he's putting my rear tire hugger on for me no extra charge. this guy was much more proffesional.

well, 3 weeks wasted sitting at someone elses shop. i really believe he was going to keep my bike. when he showed up he told me "oh, i was gonna call you this morning to come take it".........BULL****!!!!

cant wait to get it back and see it w/ the hugger! i'll post pics!
