Dog Owners/Lovers
When i was a kid i had a rottweiler and a stray german shepard mix that we took in. The rott developed hip dysplatia and was stolen and when my step dad moved in, being from tennessee, he believes dogs need like 45 acre minimum to live on and didnt want us keep the dog "cooped up" in the city so he gave it to one of his buddies out in the country. From that point (about 8 years old) on ive never had a pet and can barely wait for the day i have my own house and get my own dog. Which will be a rottweiler, naturally.
Anyway, I'm close to graduating college and moving out on my own, so ive been doin my research and dogs, specifically rottweiler breeders, etc, which has only multiplied my anticiipation of getting my dog finally.
Anyway, i came across this story and found it pretty touching, and thought it would be good to start a thread for ppl to share their fond memories, or scares (like losing a pet, or one getting injured, etc) they have had with their pets over the years.

Great story with an even greater outcome, pretty good example of what happens when a dog & human bond . I've had dogs most of my life & the only thing wrong with them is their short life spans. To me, the grief from losing a dog is the worst kind, their your closest friend, partner & Allie. We have a pretty big dog ownership in Australia & unfortunately we have a equally as big problem with people either abandoning & mistreating them & a great number end up in pounds, were most are put down. We do have a lot of private organizations (like the RSPCA) & smaller volunteer outfits that try & save as many as they can, but way to many don't make it.
The dog I have now is a Border Collie X Aust Red Cattle dog, (I always prefer mongrels) & she is the most loyal of the ones I've had, she follows me every where & if I go out without her, she just shuts down, won't eat, drink (or pee) till I get home.
This is her, I took this photo about a year ago, but I could take another one now, as she is laying in the same spot, waiting for me.

thats a beautiful dog you have there
yea ive read that some dogs do that when ppl leave because seperation anxiety. alot of times in a wild pack of dogs, if a dog or leader leaves, its often because of something serious, like to die... so when you leave as far as ur dog knows is your gone forever, lol.

Great Story! Ive had dogs as long as I can remember, I currently have two. An Akita and a Blue Heeler.
Here is another story, this time about an akita http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachik%C5%8D
Here are some pics of my doggies!

anyways about a month and a half ago, loki (the akita) started to go blind. He has a disease known as VKH. Basically his immune system attacks his pigmented cells. After taking him to MANY visits to the dog eye care specialist... and lots of $$ he is back to seeing again! He has probably 50% of his original vision but man... talk about scary. I thought I was going to have to put him down as this disease is pretty terrible on dogs.
anyways, he is back to his old self again!

Get a Shepard.... Greatest Dogs EVER. We have done very with ours and she is absolutely the greatest dog one could hope for.
Goes out and goes to the bathroom and comes back in with noone watching her, has gone to the bathroom inside 2 times in 4 years we have had her and both were our fault. NEVER chewed up ANYTHING that wasn't one of her toys. Scares the hell out of people who don't know her and yet is deftly gentle with the neighborhood children - the 1 year old, the 9 month old, and the 3 year old LOVE her, and borderline speaks english.
PLUS you don't have to deal with that stigma that comes with the ROTTS.

i too have had dogs my entire life. my uncle breeds a championship bloodline of chocolate labs, i cannot wait to get my own place so i can make a trip back home and bring a pup home. i also beleive they need more room to run than a dinky apartment complex can provide.
these dogs are super smart(scary sometimes) And the best hunting dogs ive ever encountered.
Good story also, love hearing good things like that. stories like that are too few and far between.

yea i like shepards too... i pretty much like all dogs
it sux the stigma that goes with rotties, but ignorant ppl can stereotype if they want
ill def be getting a rott, i loved mine and it was a great dog... then it was stolen... so there is no question i will be getting a rottie... i guess to "fill that void"
a rottie is one of the most loyal, confident, calm dogs you can get, and excellent with children. the only thing is they are so powerful they need a loyal, confident, and calm owner too. too often ppl get them because they look tough and dont realize that theyll soon have ot be controlling a 110 lb beast of a dog in a year. They dont socialize them properly, or give them consistent obedience training.
Any dog has the capability to do good or bad, and its 99% dependent on their owners... the rotts and pitts just get the bad rap because they are so powerful they get used for dog fighting, and portrayed by movies and news as "killer dogs"
