Default does riding a bike make you a better car driver?

today i took a road trip about 2 hours away to see my dad after surgury (he's fine.) anyway, i went by myself. i rarely drive for more than 1/2 hour. and when i do, my girlfriend is usually with me. so this was a long trip for me. anyway, back to the point of this post. i constantly noticed myself checking all mirrors frequently and scanning fields for deer and driveways and intersections for cars. and get this. i even waved at bikers. i've never noticed myself doing these things before while behind the wheel of my truck. and it dawned on me: these are all things that i learned in the msf course and constantly do while riding. so what do you think? does riding your bike make you a better car driver?

I believe it certainly does. I'm trying to talk my 17 yr old son into taking the MSF course to make him a better car driver.

He's not interested in bikes... go figure.

I beleive 100% it makes you a better car driver. I'm on the road alot for long distances, and never thought about checking my mirrors unless I was about to pass. Now I turn almost all the way around before I pass, and am constantly checking my mirrors.

I also agree that it makes you a better driver. As a biker, we have to be defensive or die. In a car/cage, most people just drive (literally!) Push the gas and brake. You almost never see a driver turn their head to check a blind spot and if a biker does not do that, could be bad news.

Bikers just think differently/better.

i was doing this before i started riding. I guess this is why it made me a better rider..-= ) But as i tell my friends, practice in the car, where its safer. If you can predict what other people will be doing 90% of the time, you just saved so many avoided dangerious situations

it makes me a better driver for sure. I look around a LOT more than I did before I started riding

I think it absolutely makes you a better driver. Whenever I'm in the car I constantly play the "if I was on a bike and that happened what would I have done" game.
