I did see a few minutes towards the end and have a question
did somebody actually exit the track on pit lane, drive straight through at full speed and actually try to rejoin the race (taking out a few people in the process)???
thats f'ed up if thats actually what happened I may have to rethink my "I do have respect for the drivers" post

Don't recall the end that your talking about, but couldn't immagine a driver doing that on purpose. This is the first race of a long season, a little early to be pissing people off that you gota share a track with for the next 9mo. As for walls killing drivers, absolutely correct, but in the end, it's an inherently dangerous sport, as is all of racing, and I don't think we'll ever really be totally void of the danger. Well, I don't think theres everr been a serious injury in lawn-mower racing, man have you seen those things!

haha yeah that lawnmower racing stuff is f'in hilarious!
and yeahracing is dangerousbut they are actively trying to make it dangerous rather than trying to keep things as safe as possible, thats my issue with them (well one of many, there is still the whole driving in a circle thing)
other racing has gotten even better with track safety measures but as I said you lose seating spaces and have to spread things out a lot more when you make it safe, nascar isn't willing to do that so drivers will die because of it. Now that its such a huge business, nothing is going to change pretty much ever. Cars will get faster, tracks won't change and more people will die
most race tracks that have runoff have at least 10-20 ftof grass before you get to the gravelso the cars and bikes generally don't losethat much time iftheyrun off the track, hell I ran offin a race at talladega this past weekend and only 1or 2 people passed me, thats a lot better than hitting a wall (helicopter rides to the hospital are more expensive than some might think)
