Default A day at the best beach in the UK

Since everyone is moaning about the winter I thought these might help!! :-)

These are all taken by me at Barafundle Bay in Pembrokeshire this August ...

Barafundle is a beautiful bay and beach and I used to do a lot of Kayaking here during my 20s ..I have spent so much time on this beach, either kayaking, swimming or more lately just strolling along the waters edge ..I love it here but again pics will never capture a places spirit, only give you an idea...

I have posted this one before but now include all the kayaks from one of the days I was there too ...

Most kayakers launch at Stackpole Quay and paddle around the headland to this beach, its what we used to do!! :-)

I often go and sit up on the cliff tops here and took these from above :-) ..there are a lot of interesting caves to explore from a kayak

I zoomed in here from high up above!! :-)

Finally I sometimes just point the camera straight into the sun for the hell of it ...is this why I am going blind ..lol

Very nice. How warm does the water get? I always pictured that as far north as the UK is, the water would stay pretty cold.

It's f-f-f-reezing! At least it always is down on the south coast near Bournemouth. I can't believe that the sea is any warmer further north!

Well, the UK waters are not as cold as you would think because we are warmed by the Gulf Stream and this beach is also very sheltered and part of the Carmarthen bay area ... my friend has been down to the med and she reckons that felt as cold or colder than Barafundle, go figure!!

Also some people are more nesh than others, in my 20s I have swam in these waters many times in just my bikini, its cold at first but once you get swimming it feels fine ... in more recent years I have used a wet suit, just a short sleeved one and that is plenty comfortable as far as being warm enough goes ... also for kayaking you hardly need a wet suit as you are mainly in the boat

However if I was to go in now, with the weight I am down to I would be ICE within minutes .. so I just stroll along the waters edge and people watch these days ...

Those kayaks look fun! Went out with one for the first time this summer, been sold on them since.

Um, I'd guess that the water can't be any colder than it is here in CT at the beach or on the Cape and the Islands.

Nice new avatar Jules. I can almost see .... [sm=drooldude.gif]

I apologize....

I think I am even more bummed out than before...

Amazing pictures again though Jules. That looks like it might be a pretty long walk to the tops of those cliffs. Thats an awesome view. I have been kayaking once, just in the rivers of Pittsburgh. It wouldnt have been alot better being able to explore those caves.
