Default Crate/Junkyard Engines

Hello, I've blown two holes in my block recently and need a new motor (1993 900rr) I've been looking around on ebay and local classifieds and so far have turned up a few but nothing looks promising for under 1000$. This seems ridiculously overpriced for a 20 year old motor. anyone know of any good junkyards or over seas sellers that might be worth checking out?

anything overseas would get you on shipping. and truth be told, there aren't too many pick-n-pulls or junkyards like there are with cars. since you seem familiar with wrenching, have you thought about re-building a motor? it's also possible to find engine casings for a hundred bucks or so.

while it may seem outrageous for a 20 yr old motor, i've kind of seen that it has more to do with motor size than it does age. older 600's go for MUCH cheaper ($400-$500)... complete 600rr motors (03-) can be found for $650... all of your liter bikes (900's,929's,954's,1000rr's) go for around $1000 and up.

unless you can re-build motors, you're probably going to have to spend about that to get a good complete motor

I'm pretty sure the head is damaged, and i can see the crank is too or I would consider getting a bare block and rebuilding. I kind of figured over seas would even out, I used to ship honda car motors over seas and they would come out about the same price but with much fewer miles, I was kind of hoping the same thing with motorcycles

ya, but think about the numbers and demand of cars vs motorcycles. especially when most of the world markets did not get the same machinery the USA and europe did during that time period...

you could try it though. i'd start with using the same companies you used for car parts and ask if they know of any motorcycle part dealers that operate like that

or troll CL and looked for a cheap/wrecked/project 900rr bike where the motor is perfect - then part out the rest. i found a 900rr once for $900. it had no fairings and a dented tank... but after selling the front end and rear swingarm - you'd be around what you'd pay for a 600 motor
