Well I think it's a fairly simple argument. You're looking at a 600 with nearly twice the miles of a 954 and both of them are flawless by your estimation. I think all you have to do is figure out what kind of rider you are. Is the 6 or the 954 more suited to your needs? I'd go for the 954 myself, but I have more than a little bias.

In regards to the lot of heat, all I can do is give my opinion. The bike does get warm, but if you're in an area like you mention then it will literally be a non-issue. I am not experienced enough to describe the differences between a 600rr and a 954, all I know is that after a ton of riding there is nothing I can't do on my 954. I mean.... other than destroy a Hayabusa on a straightaway.
Folks I know with both are so damned happy to be riding a honda of either spec. I would simply say the 954 because I am a bull on straight shots, and fold in to turns like the wind. I have ridden for hours on end and remained comfortable, there is no bogging and stepping off is a disappointment.

I would say its mainly up to you on the looks dept, and if you want the extra power. I dont notice any heat issues like others do. I have ridden a lot of bikes, and they all get hot on a 90 degree day sitting in traffic. Im also biased, so just by looking at my name you know my choice, but i tried to be open about it for ya.
