cancer risk from riding bikes?

RE: cancer risk from riding bikes?
I think you're all barking up the wrong tree boys with this radiation thingy, it's not nuclear type radiation they mean ie particles...it's electromagnetic radiation and it's nothing to do with the engine itself rather the high tension collapsing fields produced by the ignition systems. The coils etc are usually just under the seat tank area and will produce an electromagnetic field around them as they produce the spark for the plugs. It's this field that the jury is still out on...think power lines and leukaemia etc...also the old CRT monitors and the advice to sit well back from them because of the same electromagnetic energy that surrounds them...
That's what they are meaning with regard to bikes as to whether it's a real problem or not is inconclusive...maybe if you ride 24/7 ?
It's just a theory but it won't stop me riding my bike! :-)
Also I'm sure you could design some sort of "shielding!" against it...

This just in...breathing air causes cancer!

i agree with you Juliet. i disagree with their theory because the amount of energy it would take to create and maintain a magnetic field powerful enough to hurt people, even in the long run, would be pretty massive. Besides, we are literally immersed in magnetic fields a good portion of the day. on the bike or not.

...there is a lot of evidence of power lines and people who live near them getting cancers...the field may interfere with our own magnetic fields that we all have...sort of distorting it...distort it long enough and the body may react...all theoretical but plenty of anecdotal evidence...who knows...

I'm going to be the first to design and patent "Lead Undies" his and hers of course, for the cancer concerned motorcyclist.
