Building a race car...
So after the girlfriend got her new Explorer she's going to let me tear into the Volvo. Here's what I've got to start with...

Here are some pictures of others...

I think it might be fun to take it to Topeka at the road course. Plus it's in great condition mechanically and cosmetically - the bottom end is just finally giving out. I'm thinking of a Ford 302 H.O. with a 9" Ford rear end. I've got tons of Mustang parts available to me and I love the 302's so I'm sure I'll go that route, I know the engine well too.
So anyway - anyone here build an ol' 1986 Volvo 240DL?

That would be a blast at HPT. Good choice on the 302, lots of options. The 9" will hold up, sounds like you got a good game plan.
Heck, where are you at? It's been awhile since I've built a race car, need some help?

Hey man I would love it! I've never done it so I'm excited. I've already got a handfull of parts at my disposal but I just gotta finish the bike first (hell of a dillema, eh?).
I lack the big boys like a compressor, welder and pnuematic equipment but I am slowly getting there tool-wise just taking some time. Heck yeah though, if you'd like to check it out or BS sometime I'm up in St. Joseph. It would be a fun project for sure, and I think a, "relatively" easy one to go about doing... ? There will always be problems but I guess that's half the fun, right?

Just make sure you download all the rules for the track your taking it to. Some require cages, fuel cells, 6 point harnes and original glass to be removed. I did some stock cars a few years back and they won't let ya near the track if your not in spec...
Fully aware of tech...
Should be lots of fun. And to be honest, when I reference the road course, I'm talking track days. Not points racing. Tech inspections areverydifferent in those applications.
I want to build a manueverable, and strong chassis with a strong powerplant for maximum mid-range capability on acceleration, brakes and and cornering. Basically a street legal racing-tuned V-8.
A sleeper, if you will

Heh, the point is I have the car and parts already available. Plus those others look pretty dang cool!
Would definitely not be my first choice in cars, but hey... its free and in great shape!
