Default Boston

Mrs SB and my thoughts are with all those affected by the Boston explosions during the marathon.

Terrible, horrific occurrence.

Yes it is, I was less than an hour away from Boston today on my way back to school and had friends who were down at the Marathon in the area where the explosions happened. IN reality the whole thing could have been much worse! They have since found two unexploded devices, one of which was under the VIP section where the families of the Newtown, CT tragedy victims were invited to be at the marathon.

I hope things get better for the families that have been forever changed by these events in the days to come, but I feel that they won't. It's a sad thing, a shame it had to happen, but maybe even a bigger shame it wasn't stopped. Info coming out now says there were spotters and bomb sniffing dogs at the marathon. Spectators were informed it was a training exercise and not to worry. A true shame and tragedy, hope things get better!

My prayers also go out to the victims and their families. I read this and thought it revealed my feelings perfectly.

I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, "Well, I've had it with humanity."

But I was wrong. I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem -- one human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths.

But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. This is a giant planet and we're lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in a while, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they're pointed towards darkness.

But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evildoers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago.

So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, "The good outnumber you, and we always will."

Bad Day - Had some workmates at the Marathon all thankfully safe and sound.

Deepest sympathies to all the families of those murdered and injured.

This is not an act of terrorism on the United States, but it is an act of terrorism against all of humanity. As a collegiate runner i know that running, especially the Boston Marathon, is an act of peace. Throughout history the olympic games were an opportunity for warring nations to lay down their arms and compete against each other for they knew there was more honor in outrunning someone than there was in killing them. Running has new meaning for me and i'll be thinking about everyone affected by this event as i go out later and lace up my shoes and go out for a run. I wish there was more i can do besides just pray. But all i can do is pray and go about my day as if nothing ever happened. If we do anything else then we are letting the enemy win this battle. By going about our business we are saying to them that they are not going to get us down and they are not going to win. I am weeping on the inside for everybody this day, i am weeping that somebody would try to destroy one of the only things in the world in which people can put aside racial and religious differences and come together as humans and celebrate life, I am weeping that someone would attempt to destroy something so beautiful. I urge everybody reading this to do the same as I, I urge you to go about your day as if nothing happened, because that is the only thing that we can do. To do anything less would be letting the person or persons that did this to win this attack on humanity. Do as you would but do so with a different attitude. As for me and all the other runners on my team, lacing up my shoes will have new meaning this day.

I care not what creed or colour or political persuasion -
Bombers are gutless, spineless wastes of oxygen and skin.
Cowards all.

Revenge will be sweet. It always is.

My thoughts for the families of all involved.
This is a crime against humanity and should be prosecuted as such.
