If ya need the chain get the chain. Go over to (add local discount store here) and get a pair of cheap 25 dollar work boots for the time being, much safer then Nike's.

I have never researched the chain and sprocket kit vs. just buying a chain. What is the difference in price? Can you just buy a chain and still afford the boots? That would be a nice compromise in my opinion...but what do I know? (that was a rhetorical question ).

Wow where to begin on this one, talk about an opening A new will run around $120 ballpark, a kit will be in the $180 range. Most likely if you have really worn out your chain you will need new sprockets too. If the teeth are worn or rounded at all they can ruin a new chain fairly quickly. This has been a public service in aid of Voodoo.......

Yea hey, so Ill +1 the boots. You ever walk and accidentally twist your ankle? Feels good doesn't it! I've got AS booties, and there bad *** ( cant remember what kind, it doesn't matter...chicks dig it..) and my bike is 90% stock..You look better when your not mangled, and replacing a leg isn't like replacing fairings..

both pricey though...

New Chain and Sprockets. Boots wont do **** when your leg gets riped off because your chain broke.
