without saying to much other than "wake up", I brought in two estimators for an interview, talk about gettin buisy...the guy has put three jobs on my desk before i left friday... ive got a job evaluation sheet started with him and told him he must produce and show desire to keep position as sleepin at desk is a slap in the face...

That dude has a roll of toilet paper on his desk! He may have some bigger issues than sleep.

Sounds like you got a fire lit under his ***.

Talking about firing and what-not is all well and good, but re-training a new person and taking the risk on some untested hire is... well... risky. Guess you've got his attention for now!

exactly chuckbear, i hate starting over with new unless push comes to shove, i did that to persuade a better work ethic, and it worked, at this mornings prodution meeting he appologized to my entire office. i think he got the point....

Nice. And like a couple posters said... chit she does happen and sometimes life hit's you all at once and it's gotta give somewhere... If he took the initiative to apologize to the office and has stepped it up, he's probably a pretty competent and honest guy and probably the kind of person you want on your team. Not everyone (read: most people) has the gumption to own up when they've underperformed and commit to make good on it. Hope business turns up for ya bud!
