Clutch cable snapped yesterday Had gotten home from my first ride in three weeks due to work/visiting family. As soon as we pulled in the driveway and the bf went to put it away, it snapped when he pulled the clutch in to walk it up.

I'm reaaaaaally glad it didn't snap while riding. That probably wouldnt've ended up well for me but I couldn't find a part in stock anywhere locally so no more riding this weekend. Hmph.

 

Theres a few cables on ebay but they're expensive!

Im also paranoid about my cables snapping soon so im going to replace them when this new can and cct arrives. May aswel get it all out the road while its in bits.

This reminds me of a story (sorry, not trying to be a one-upper) of the time the clutch cable broke on my '78 Kawasaki 400KZ as I was getting ready to leave work....

...which was about 30 miles from home...
...and it had just started to rain...
...in rush hour traffic.

No joke. It was the perfect storm. Ahhh yes, the day I learned how to ride a motorcycle without a clutch. That was an.....educational experience.

Riding the bike up onto the sidewalk as I approached red lights and waiting for the light to turn green before pushing it back into the street and jumping on...giving it just enough gas in neutral and then slamming it into 1st gear at the appropriate RPM. Think I may have coasted through a stop sign or two as well. Good times.

 

Do you do a pre-ride check?
There is an acronym that they teach on the Canada safety council course F L A M E
F -fluids (gas,oil,coolant,brake and hydraulic clutch)
L -lights (headlight,signals,brake and running lights)
A -air pressure/tire condition
M -mechanical (loose fasteners,cables,suspension,brakes)
E -electrics.
A simple pre-ride inspection may alert you to components that are at their wear limit.

really... i just ordered mine the other day for $20 shipped... i needed a new one cuz mines was UBER stretched.. it got to the point where my clutch lever just didnt stay still, it was dangling.

Shouldn't be too expensive at all from what I'm seeing on ebay. $20-$30 or so. I checked on them.

I've never had to buy one for my bike cuz it's hydraulic.

 

Elf, thank God for it happening in the driveway, Look up beaverdam honda and look thru their parts finder, I replaced every cable on my 900 with honda parts for cheap there, look it up and see .peace
