Default BMW 1000rr

I'm assuming some of you have heard about the new BMW 1000rr that will be for sale in the Spring of 2010. It has very impressive stats for a litre bike, 193 hp, 83 lb/ft, and a wet weight of 455 with ABS.

Here are the gear ratios.
1st - 1:2.647
2nd - 1:2.091
3rd - 1:1.727
4th - 1:1.500
5th - 1:1.360
6th - 1:1.261

Final drive ratio is 1:2.588

However, it has a top speed of 124 mph? What is that all about? Can anyone offer any insight into this? Is it the gearing?

It must be electronically limited. With that kind of HP and torque it should top out over 186mph- where the Japanese have limited their bikes.

I can olny imagine what it would feel like to be at wide open throttle and hit the limiter , at 124 this bike would still be pullin like MAD , and then for the computer to start droppin cylinders! that is a very strong , three legged horse...hehehe

Here is the website dedicated to the bike.

http://www.bmwplanetpower.com/

It has all kinds of stuff including a 43 page release with all the info of the bike which is where I found the gearing.

How is the Honda 1000rr geared for comparison? Limiting it to 124 makes no sense at all seeing as that would probably still be 2nd with a 14k redline.

This is a beautiful bike. I was surprised when I saw the price. If they give us a discount...

I'm not sure where you got those numbers but I found them in the 43 page BMW media release.

About 1/3 of the way down, you can download the pdf.
