Default Blasphemy?

So "Tiffany" did it back in the day, but a new version of the song is out

Just wondering what you guys think about this topic. Personally, I didn't think this song sounded half bad. Don't get me wrong though, in no way can it replace the original, which is amazing. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qtl7l0HHWI For those who don't know it), but I liked it nonetheless.

What do you guys think about taking beats, remixing old songs, remaking old songs with modern sounds, or whatever else? I'll give two more examples for now

The Police - Every Breath You take

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O3Z00jn47M (remixed with Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars")
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VX9cM-Ovm3s (Rap Remix done for Biggie)

The Clash - Straight to Hell
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQwm1v1R-qM (Original)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sei-eEjy4g (I'm sure a good bit of us know the MIA Beat sample)

I have heard some that are tolerable, and one or 2 in my time that were actually good remakes. But a few days ago on the radio at work i heard Folsom prison blues from everlast and i about threw up.

Here's one "Time after Time" redone by Quietdrive.

"Beat It" redone by Fall Out Boy

I like both of these.

Same here man and i dont think you should mess with some of the classics, and one of those is Folsom Prison Blues.

Actually, I don't mind covers of songs. Some people adding their own twist. It gives the opportunity for a classic song to reach out to a newer generation. Not letting good music die, no matter what us old foggies may think is great in my mind.

Anyone remember the Saturday Morning Cartoons? Well back in '95, an album was released with multiple performers doing covers of the songs...it took some getting used to it...but I really dug the new versions. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturday_Morning You can probably find you tube vids for the individual songs.
