Bill of Sale?

Bill of Sale?
i'm looking at a bike currently, and the owner doesnt have a title. but he said he'll give me a bill of sale. i called the dmv to find out how that works, and he said they dont do that. the owner would have to file for a lost title for $95, and then i'd have to transfer it to my name for another $95.
has anyone dealt with a bill of sale? i'm really interested in the bike as a stunt bike, but i want it to be street legal

A bill of sale means jack. All that does is say that the seller got his money, if you had to prove to the judge that you paid him.
How do you know it's not stolen? If it is found out the bike is hot, you are out the money.
Never buy without the title. I would never try to sell a vehicle without one, it's silly to even try.

I've purchased a car w/o title but never a bike?
The owner of the car said he lost title years ago. He was able to obtain a form from DMV (not a bill of sales) it's a form that the seller fills out when lost title. I forgot what that form is call but guess info needed on that form can only be provided by the true owner. All details of vehicle & seller (SSN#)...
The DMV has records and once info matches...a duplicate title was issue to me as new owner.
In your case $95 + $95 is harsh...because it's two process.
If you like the bike so much, ask the seller to go DMV with you, and maybe a one process is needed. If seller really wants to sell, I would go....piece of cake.
But if bike us really HOT/stolen...seller will not return your call....
Plenty of opportunity out there, why pick one with such risk & headache...
It's a buyers market...

yea i called the dmv, and they said not to do it. i needed to get him to apply for a lost title, which is $95. then i have to transfer it over to my name for another $95. but he said that he bought it with a bill of sale as well, so he'd have to go to the person he got it from.
so all in all, i'm not getting it lol
thanks for the heads up
