There's no need to turn it into a stunt bike just because it ends up with a salvage title. Sure it will hurt resale a little bit if you want to sell it down the road, but it just means it's been repaired. My bike is a salvage title and it looks great (or it did at least, lol).

But my point Aken, is that sticking an extra $700 into fairings for a bike with a salvage title probably is not a great idea. If you are able to repair and repaint them yourself then by all means do that!

There is no way I will drive a fighter (No offense to those that do).
The adjudter said he is going to look at it in the next 5 business days and go from there.

At the dealership they said the book value was $4000 but just noticed on the quote they said MSRP $2800, Now Im scared that they will look at the quote and say thats what its worth, Does anyone know why they wrote it that cheap on the quote?
I'm going to ask them tomorrow when they open but thought I would ask on here.
I might ask the insurance if they will pay out $3000 and not put a salvage title on it and see what they say?

They won't let you keep the bike without a salvage title.

I was not suggesting YOU ride it like that. I was suggesting you sell it like that and buy a new bike. You will probably come out best in that scenario. Unless you are attached to this particular bike and it is worth the expense to restore it.

The $2800 must be a typo. Call them and ask.

$2800 is the KBB retail value for a 2001 CBR F4i in excellent condition with expected mileage. The insurance company is going to total it out.

What you MAY be able to do is talk with the insurance adjuster and attempt to reach an agreement: -$1 from the totalled break point. If the value is $2800 then tell the adjuster you'll agree to him cutting you a check for $2799 and you'll handle acquiring the parts / doing the work yourself. Your title remains clear, you can still go the aftermarket route (pocketing a good sum of cash) and your bike retains more resale value.

Wow, the KBB on my bike went down $600 in the last 2 months

I would buy '01 F4i's all day at $2800!

I'm also in Canada and the dealership looked up there Canadian equivilent to KBB and for average condition it was $4000 (the quote is $2867.74)?
A F4i in the shape mine was in will fetch $5000 easy with 25,000km's (15.5k mi).
So really if I was to get money and get a new bike I would be getting one in worse condition (after fixed) and more kms and not knowing the service upkeep it had before me.
I'll keep you posted as I go.

Did they quote the Retail or Trade In value? Cause the trade-in value is usually much lower than the retail.

Still, quoted $4.3k even at a $5k value (and what you feel your bike is worth based on the market is kinda irrelevant) the insurance company will still total it out. Last time I had to deal with an insurance claim on a vehicle (a car) was bout 15 years ago. And the adjuster told me over 1/2 the value of the vehicle in repairs and they total it unless there are extraordinary circumstances (classic / unique vehicles).

Like I said, try to negotiate with the adjuster to come out just under the total limit. Then get the parts and put them on yourself. The Honda dealer is prolly tossing $60 - $80 / hr labor into the estimate.

It's a perfectly good idea if he's gonna keep the bike and get a lot of use out of it. If he wants to ride it for one season then upgrade, then I wouldn't bother. But if you're like me and plan on having your F4i for a long time, then by all means, put money into it, salvage title or not.

When I bought the bike I put it on the same loan as my truck so I still have 2 more seasons with it (or payments at least) and I know the service record on it and it is right up to par.
So I would want to keep it for awhile more as I also have a kid and looking at buying a house so I will not have much money to attempt to upgrade at all.
