Funny story. When I first started riding,a guy I know was explaining to me how to "properly" wave to other guys on bikes. He goes "If they're on a cruiser, give them an open hand, above the bar. If they're on a sport bike, with your hand below the bar, sort of point to the ground with your index and middle finger together. If they're on a 250, don't wave." I laughed at first and thenrealized "Hey f#ck you, I ride a 250!!!" LOL!

I think a young rider is very well served by starting on a 250. In the states, we can't get the CBR250 yet, but they have it in Canada (and Europe), and it was sold out at the first partof the year. Teenagers are invincible, I thought so when I was that age. If you give them a bike that can do 140+ there is a time when they will try it, and not have the practical skills to negotiate a unforeseen problem. Granted, hitting a tree or a car on a 250 feels the same, but the potential power of a 600+cc bike is tempting fate in my opinion.

I was going to buy a new gs500 to start on, but i decided to get something that wasnt so perfect, so i picked up my f1. i dont think its impossible for a new rider to start on a 600, obisously, so long as its not a new 600, esp an rr. my bike has 70hp stock, newer bikes pushing 100+ is a significant difference and will be a lot less forgiving throttling out of turns....do not get me wrong, my bike has the potential to jerk you off the back if you underestimate her....just not as quick as a new bike would.
