Default Any car audio ppl?

Can anyone recommend a good head unit for me.... mine is a couple years old and isnt working too good. Not looking to spend $1000 but need something good, ive got clarion speakers all around, 1200watt sony amp, and 15 inch kicker sub. Any suggestions would help.

I have been looking at ones with flip out touch screens, they got them at circuit city for like 400 but i heard that they dont have very good output for high performance systems, anyone have experience with these?

Clarion makes some pretty nice flip out ones. They should be able to power you speakersdepending on how many you have. I think most head units are around 50X4.. but i haven't been in car audio fora while. I used to have alpine 12 in x types and 3000w planet audio amp with a tsunami power cap. It got stolen tho but i still have my alpine 6x9's in a car that doesn;t even run lol. I had a clarion head unit and got a digital ipod adapter that put out amazing sound quality.

If you want just a normal headunit, no screen or anything, Pioneer Premier has always been my favorite. I had an older model DEH-P8MP in my old car, and I loved every second of it. 3 pre-amp outputs w/ higher voltage, lots of tuning capabilities, MP3 of course, etc.

yea the one i have is a clarion, i like it but its not working right, and it doesnt have a sub controler which sucks. I need to get the capacitor too ive gone through like 3 batteries in the past 2 years, at 90 a pop im n idiot to not just get one. But you havent heard anything negative about the output of the flipouts?

no my buddy has a alpine flipout and it powers 2 10 in alpine subs. My clarion deck was perfect for tuning. It had treble all the way to gain.. plus a sub booster lol. I really liked my deck.. it recorded tracks too from cd's.

Capacitor isn't necessary, just get a nice deep cell. I ran an Optima Red Top for four years in my old car w/ my 1200 watt stereo setup, never had any issues (except when I killed the battery from playing around too much ).

Always Alpine now for me. I used to love the Premier line but then Pioneer screwed up when the design changed several years ago.

if you want good sound you dont want to power your speakers from you head unit. its much better to run a mono block for your subs and depending on the amount of speakers you have a 4 channel amp or a 4 and a 2 channel amp that runs your mids and highs. put it all to some sort of equalizer. take the head unit out of the equation when it comes to that, its not going to give you the crystal clear sound. and if your running 2 15's your going to want a cap i dont care what kind of battery you have that shiz is not good on your electrical system. i used to watch my battery meter bounce when the my 2 12's were hitting hard w/ a red top optima. a cap is fairly cheap you don't need a ridiculous 1. like 60 bucks and it'll take a lot of stress off of your electrical system.
