Almost didn't make it back from this ride!!!!!
I just had an interesting day. Rode up to Hwy 90 south of Mt. St. Helens today from Portland with a friend. Great ride except for some wet areas that slowed us down. Made it up to McClellan viewpoint and I suddenly had a flat on the back tire. ****! [:@]This area is very remote, the nearest one gas station town is 30 miles away. I sent my friend back down the road to a general store we passed about 5 miles back. While waiting a couple guys, one on a Monster, one on some BMW stop at the lookout point. Well one guy had an air compressor so we hooked it up. It wouldn't pump above 20psi and we found the damage. Something sliced through in one of the grooves and the air was just pouring out! Well my friend returns with a can of fix-a-flat but they didn't have the ones with the tube. So thatwas useless. Oh well time to ride I guess! [:@] We rode at 25mph on a flat over wet roads back to that store. That really sucked bad, tire kicked out a couple times but I made it. Ok this is getting long so I'll cut this part short. Basically the guy from the store came out with some rubber cement, a piece of tar he picked up off the ground and a screwdriver. So we jammed the tar covered in rubbercementinto the cut with the screwdriver and then cut it flush. Filled it up with air and it held!!!!! I couldn't believe it! Rode all the way back home about 90 miles no problem!
Here's a pic of the plug after I got home.
