Hey:
The reason I include it, was the GL1000 was The Honda flagship bike for everything from 1975 till the intro of the CBX in 78/79. A 1977 cafe model was even considered but they did not want it to compete with the release of the Upcoming CBX. It was a bike meant to out BMW the BMWs, and back then, they were the only word other than Moto Guzzi in Sport touring. A Yamaha XS1100 was made to compete with Both the Kawasaki KZ900Z1 and the Goldwing. The Goldwings from 1975-79 were all naked with the biggest Honda engine of that time. It was a do everything, super reliable bike back then before it was Interstated in 79/80, plus they have sold over a million Goldwings at the Honda plant in the USA alone. I think the early model Goldwing deserves the title of Superbike as much as a 1974 CB750 SOHC. It was just different times back then with different criteria of what a Superbike was. Also it makes for good forum debates. Also when I am Done with all my current projects a 76 Goldwing Cafe Racer will be my next project, along the line of Randakks.

I'll have to agree with Kiwi here as to the original '69 CB750K (the 750F didn't appear until about '75)- as he says, the bike that started it all. And not to nitpick with CBR1988, but in '78 when the XS1100 came out, Kawi was making KZ1000's. The 78 model year also saw the release of the CBX, Kawi's Z1R, and Suzuki's GS1000, maybe the best in the bunch. I owned one of these back then and it was the lightest of the pack and had the trickest suspension.

Hey:
@pacojoseph its not a nitpick you are correct about the year, but the development of the XS1100 was begun in response to the 75 -76 Kawasaki increase in popularity, it took them over 2 years to get the bike out to the market as Yamaha was very cautious back then but really wanted to be #1 and wanted no mistakes, they also delayed the bikes launch to get the fastest bike title, Hence why I stated KZ900.

I would agree on all counts Sprock. I had to throw a vote to the VF1000R. I always thought that should have been the original Honda "sport tour" platform.
The other thought I had looking at many of the comments was many enjoyed the VFR/RC style, conversly nobody likes what they see in the Honda showroom nowadays.
I know the retro thing is so been done already but too many think they still look right.
