All Nighter, Lesson Learned
[size=2]
[b]Just as I was about to limp off to bed. I heard that oh to familiar sound of squealing tires and crunching metal. I Turn limp back through the family room and looked out the bay window couldn't see anything it's about 30 yards across the yard to the edge of the road with a few pine trees scattered between here and there. But there is an extremely sharp curve right past my driveway, and at least once a month. According to the wife. There is a wreck going either way through the curve. Now having nothing on but a wife beater LOL and a pair of boxers shorts, a sling over my left arm and a brace on my left knee. I hobbled back to the bedroom and felt underneath the edge of the bed, trying not to wake the wife and get a pair of shoes. She set up in bed and said, what are you doing? I said there has been an accident at the end of driveway again I'm going to see if I can help. She said OK right, let me pull on some clothes. Now by the time she did, I had manage to get the two shoes on, and we hobbled down the driveway together. Now, we live kind of out in the country , but not in the boonies. So the house in which they accident occurred in front of is owned by a retired couple who travels quite often as we walked up to the car. We could see it was lodged between a post and power pole and there was one young man standing outside the car and another making some bad noises laying in the seat now as we had started down the driveway the wife had opened her cell phone and dialed 911 and just as she dialed it. I said, what if they just pulled off so she hung up. Because where we were at you couldn't see the road or the curve yet. In retro respect, I think this was a good thing. The call that is, see as we were standing there looking things over. The guy said to me. What's up I said, are you all right, he can smiled and said better than you it looks like. I said yes, I was in a accident myself. Just a few days ago. He said look, man, we just want to get out of here you got car would pay you for a ride and get somebody to come get this thing tomorrow. Now about this time, the wife cell phone started ringing. She said, it's mom and I am going to check on the baby. I could not imagine why her mother would be calling at this hour of the night but did not want to take my attention off from this guy wasn't sure exactly what was going on, but it was not looking to cool and I was maybe going to have a problem I said to him. It looks like your Buddy is can hurt their he turned around and pick something up out of the floorboards and his hat. I almost went proactive at that point, but in my condition. I decided to be reactive instead of proactive. He said with his back to me, "he's okay. Just let us get our stuff and you give us a ride". I said back to him before he could turn around. Well now, I actually wrecked. The only car we have and was supposed to pick up a rental in the morning. But I have my cell phone right here in my hand, and you're more than welcome to call anybody you would like, but my brother-in-law lives just up the road about a mile and I'm sure for gas money he'd be happy to give you guys a ride about that time his buddy started talking about how his head was killing him and he needed to see about getting patched up and they were talking back and forth for a minute, I said do you want me to call 911 for you. The one guy turned around real quick and said no. Man, but there is somebody you can call for me. I said 'here's the phone go ahead'. He said no man I don't want touch your phone. I looked at him kind of strange and was thinking to myself. I wish to hell. I had picked up my Smith & Wesson 1006 10 mm. Instead of the damn phone, but I calmly said, "what's the number". He said "never mind just call your brother-in-law". Well just about that time, a county patrol car pulled up blue lights on spotlight on the guy set back down in the front seat and put something back in the floorboards with his hat. I never did see w

Wow, lucky or wot?? Still though I kinda think it would be hard no resist trying to help someone. Could not imagine thinking the worse scenario before reacting. But not to many Aussies carry hand guns (not saying some bad guys don't though) We had a couple young guys actually take out the house on the corner, one sunny afternoon, went right through the front of the house. Lucky nobody home, so all the neighbours run out & over to help, these two young guys get out, passenger with a bottle of scotch in his hand, dazzed, by not dazzed enough to stop from trying to run off, but some of the guys in street stopped them from running. They got argro, like young **** heads do, but all mouth & a bit of shoving
None of that type of thing went through my head though when we ran over to them. Then about two weeks later another two cars collided, one nearly going through the same house (bad stop sign) which one of the women ran through without stopping. One pretty injured.
Count your blessings, someone was looking out for you.

That's some freaky stuff. I'll start calling the police first thing from now on. I've been put into these situations before too (though, the people I was helping weren't dangerous, luckily.) That makes for one crazy night though. Good quick thinking on your wife's part.
Interesting story. Your wife did the right thing and did a damn good job of hiding what she did. Considering their history, I'm surprised those boys weren't out for blood with the police. That story could have gone a completely different route.
geeez, at first i thought, "oh no, he got in*another* accident??!" wow, thats creepy though. Deffinately agree, that was some GREAT quick thinking by your wife. And the way you handled it calmly im sure helped more than we all could know. Glad you guys are okay. damn scary these days....
Just got in from church and want to make something clear. Of course, we were not an automobile accident , It was the motorcycle accident we had,They had left us so banged up, but there was no way, In Hell I was going to lead these guys back to the house. And as far as them trying something. When the county officer arrived, there were two fire trucks in tow, and about 30 seconds behind that was the second county car right behind that was a ambulance and the guy actually seemed more like a scared puppy then a caged or cornered bear but even a puppy when cornered will bite you and in my present condition. I would be lucky to fend off a 14-year-old with a book bag especially as heavily medicated as I was at the time and just taken a round of muscle relaxers and pain medication to sleep.
And it is strange how differently we handle things at different times. Take for instance, if this had occurred, while deployed someplace anywhere. My first concern would have been about my personal security and those accompaning me. Getting control of the situation and securing the area and being totally skeptical of the entire situation until all the facts were in and would have related to the proper support personnel My exact intentions
