Default Air Bags

Have you guys noticed Honda is equipping their Gold Wings with airbags? How long do you think it'll take them to start putting them on sportbikes? I watched the video of the test crash, it actually works. It keeps the rider and passenger from flying over the bike and into the object they hit in a head on collision.

i think that it's a good idea for gold wings but not for sport bikes. the upright riding position on the gold wing means that your entire body would take the air bag impact. the leaned forward aggresive riding position on sport bikes means that your head would hit before the rest of your body and probably snap your head backwards causing neck injuries. in other words, keep them in the cages!

I agree... it would be tough to make one work on a sportbike, but I thought the same thing on any bike. Give them a few years and I'm sure they will try something.

Maybe it could give you a good bounce to clear that fkr that made a left in front of you.....

I think air bags should deploy on the outside of the vehicle as well. That would save a few bumps and bruises.

Not that a safer bike wouldn't be a great idea... but it's part of riding a bike. I say leave the airbags for the cages.

I don't think it'll ever happen for sport bikes. Most Gold Wings aren't cruising that fast when riding. It's a bigger investment for them as well. It would be nice but I don't see it happening. What is the site you saw it on? I'd like to view it myself.

i cannot remember which clothing manufacturer it is but you can buy a jacket with air bags fitted into it. it has a rip cord fitted to the bike so when you go flying off it activates before you hit the ground.
