Question 125 or 250? Two stroke or four?

I have some riding Experience but I've been away from dirt for about 5 years. On the street I ride a CBR600 F2 but I can only flat foot it if it's sitting on the ground right or if I have a passenger. lol. My last Dirt bike was an XR100. I'm around five-foot ten-inches 185 ish pounds.

I also am not sure whether to go four stroke or two. I kinda like the two strokes though. What do you guys think? I'm a little partial to the mid 90's KX's.

Two strokes don't use valves like a four stroke does. they're alot easier to work on but you have to mix the oil and gas to lube the bearings. Basically the only thing in a two stroke is piston(s), rings, connecting rod, crank shaft, and cylinder. Rather than having an intake stroke, compression stroke, power stroke, and exhaust stroke a two stroke has an compression and power stroke

i think a 125 is a little on the small side for you. i'm 5'9" and 140 lbs, and i ride a 250 2 stroke. you always have to stay on the pipe with a 125, where my 250 i'm able to lug it up through the mountains if i need to.

When 4 strokes first came out, they were heavy and slower than a comparable 2 stroke. But thats not really the case anymore. 4 strokes have come a long way and so have the chassis of the 4 strokes.

the 2 strokes as you know have a very short powerband, very peaky. You have to rev them up to get them to run' If you drop below the powerband, they have nothing and you bog down. They also require constant adjustment to keep them running at thier optimum.

4 strokes power band is everywhere. they pull very linear. you can lug em down and they just pull right through. If your in too tall of gear out of a corner, the bike will still pull through and not fall on its face like a 2 stroke. Also. the power is so much more predictable. A very good thing when traction is a concern.

In my opinion, nothing beats the sound or smell of a 2 stroke, but you cant deny how much more usable the 4 strokes are today.

If money isnt an issue, Id get a modern 4 stroke. If money is an issue.. An older 2 stroke will still be a ton of fun. But I'd try really hard to get a 4 stroke.

if 250cc is what your lookin get a 2-stroke,a 250 fourstroke is kinda like a 125 2-stroke,a450 4-stroke is kinda like a 250 2-stroke,best description i can give, but a 4-stroke has more torque and will perform better at lower speed I.E.boggin the motor down, like trail ridin, you can trail ride a 2-stroke just look for one with a bigger flywheel, its way more tamer that way,ive hit a couple whoops, jump down trees, and cleared sum bad terrain with my cr 250,and hit a few tough 1's and wound up in the bushes,My bike is set up for Racing, not trail riding, which i do,and its very temperMENTAL.Just a pinch o throttle and hang on........
