Default Where to buy a CBR?

I've spent a lot of time the past month looking forCBRs and it occured to me that I may be limiting my searches too much. I feel like I'm missing places to look.

Where would you suggest looking?

www.motors.ebay.com : Best place I've found so far. The popularity of ebay is spilling over to online auto sales.

www.cycletrader.com : Seems to have more listings than ebay, but the search tool is pretty lame. A lot of the adds just point to a website, not an actual listing.

http://www.wheelbynet.com/: Search tool is limited and the stock seem pretty poor. Not too much activity here.

Local Classifieds : a short list of options, but hopefully you can snag a good deal from someone who needs to get rid of their bike. Allows for test drives hopefully. I found a scammer here referring to freightauto.net (avoid these guys).

Local Dealers : tough to find what you're looking for at a reasonable price, but you check out your bike thoroughly before purchasing. test drives would be nice too.

Are you looking at new, used or both? And where are you?

If you're anywhere in the area and if new is included in your search, a lot of people have raved over the years that this place in Chattanooga, TN has some of the lowest prices in the country. Heck, I've read many who either drove long distances or had it shipped because they saved so much: SouthernPowerSports

(I personally have no experience with them, just what I've read - by many many people - over the years)

I'm different when I buy a bike. I completely put together a 929 with parts that I bought off of e-bay. I've got about 3300 in the bike and extra partsnow, but I have close to 1000 worth of extra parts. If I'm buying a complete bike, the main thing I look for is if it runs, and if not how much will it take to get it running. I just bought a clean title 03 f4i for 2000, the headlight is busted, upper fairing is trashed, and it wouldn't start. I bought it before I was allowed to try to start it (bank repo, the bank didn't even know it would run), put it on the trailer, removed the seat, hooked a jumper box to it, and it started right up.For 2k it didn't matter if it started because I knew I could make my money out of it either way. Don't base you purchase on looks, set a price and a model for yourself, and don't negiotiate. Be patient also, you will always find what you are looking for.

Try Craigslist.com. There are always listings for your area on that site. Other than that, good luck on your searching. As I said in another thread, I just bought brand new (but I shopped around first) to avoid the frustration of finding the "perfect bike". Couldn't find a used one worth a damn, so I just said "screw it, I'm buying a new one". $8500 OTD dollars later, I'm the proud owner of an 06 600RR six months ago.

Welcome to the forum.

You did not mention if this is a first bikeor your riding experience.
There are lots of good tips on buying on this forum if you do a search.
My first bikewas from a friend of a friend of someonethat knew someone with a bike for sale.
Looked over carefully and tested by myself and others who know what to look for.
Wewould hate for you to end up with property that was stolen froma fellow rider.[:'(]
Bike thieves are "very"creative. (a few good theft stories can also be searched on this forum)
Be carefull and good luck.

I'm from Indiana, so access to places like Chicago, Detroit, Indy, Cinncinati are all viable options. Tennessee is a stretch, but I'll definately check it out. Looking for used, I'm new to sport bikes and don't want to shell out the "new car" price. I don't want to be so terribly worried about laying it down that I hurt myself.

Looking for 600cc,2001-2004, under 20k miles, F4i preferably, but I'd be satisfied with an RR.

Try Craigslist.com. There are always listings for your area on that site. Other than that, good luck on your searching. Craigslist.com right. I've checked just Indiana but there aren't many options here in corn country. The reminder is good though, I'll keep an eye on nearby states as well.

I searched for a bit on this site where to buy but didn't seem to come up with anything useful. If you could direct me to a couple threads, I'd be very appreciative. The internet scammers seem to be taking hold of the motor sales for sure. Fortunately, I have a good friend who has tons of ebay experience and have been filtering my initial impulses by him.

Thanks for all the suggestions and the welcome. I've been reading up on the forum lately and I must say, I'm getting hooked fast.
