Hello and welcome to the forum.
Once you get low enough to hit reserve, you have to hit it quickly. It doesn't take much for it to die after that.
You need to start paying attention to your mileage. Find out how many miles to the gallon you get and use that. Fill up the tank and run it until you hit reserve area then fill it back up. Set the trip odometer before you do this. Then look at your receipt to compare how many miles you rode and how much fuel it took to fill back up. Divide the miles by the gallon and you'll have your MPG's.

you will feel the bike bogg down when you hit the gas, THATS the clue to switch to the reserve..... Then get gas as soon as possible...
And if it happens to die on you switch right away and will take a few times to start or longer than normal..... GOOD LUCK!

I had an 89 and had to hit reserver once and never went that low again.Your best bet is as mentioned...turn back your trip meter and go to say like 200 miles then fill up.
