Old fart returns for more
Hi
Last year sold my bike. Carefully stored my gear (just in case) and officially declared I was "too old now"
Last month sold the car and bought bother one... 🙁
"just when I thought I was out they drag me back in" (Al pacino, godfather 3)
Anyways looks like I've bought a dud. Looks like I'll be fishing for clues on the forum
One thing I have done though is downsize to a cbr600 as its very cheap to run... 😂

What is "too old"? Hell, I wasn't mature enough to ride until a few years ago! At 49 I realized that if I didn't get started soon, I'd never get started! 3 years and 20,000 miles later I have a few observations:
1) If I'd had, well, just about any bike in my 20's or 30's I'd have likely died.
2) If I'd had a 600cc or larger sport bike anytime before 50, I'd have likely died.
3) Every time I ride, I ask myself "Why did I wait so long?" lol...
4) That being said, it really is a good thing I waited. I have hard enough time staying "mature" now. No way I'd have been able to do it when I was younger.
5) Bonus: I've realized I want to do this as long as possible and have lost weight and increased my flexibility and endurance significantly over the last few years.
Age is just a number... until you look in the mirror!

Sounds good and good for you for getting on two wheels if it even belatedly.
One thing however though, it's good to remember the facts about road accidents involving us on two wheels.
Sadly, the overwhelming majority are caused not by over enthusiastic youthful antics, but by ignorant willful car drivers at intersections etc.
I can't say I was ever in the at risk category due to my age when I started at 17 but do accept some kids should never go near a bike. I was lucky and had older and wiser guys around me to steer me around any ******** antics I may have been tempted to recreate.
Being phyicaly fit with age and maintaining that, does not erase the fact that we lose reaction times and road awareness with age. And of course its the older drivers of cars commonly involved in pulling out on bikes... I don't feel I'm losing that yet, but hey, how would we know anyways?? Its a hard one to call.
It's tempting to lay blame at the door of your youth as there's lots of evidence to the contrary. I know, as I've lost good young friends on bikes to older drivers though no fault of their own.
