Question Noooob

Hey guys n gals. Just signed up to the forum. I have a 600f3 and love it. Its got 45k on it but it's still doing pretty well.

I have been riding all winter so far but went to start it the other day and as i twisted the throttle, i felt something let go as if something snapped. The throttle still works but where the throttle would normally sit, i'd usually have about 5-10ml of free play, now i have about 2-3 inches. I suspect damage to one of the cables so if anyone has any advice, it will be greatfully received.

I plan on cleaning the carbs/jets soon (as i always have to use the choke to start it) and have read through loads of threads so should have plenty of good info with me.

I look forward to meeting new like-minded folks and will be in touch soon (when i knacker my carbs no doubt)
see you out there
Wheatville

Broken throttle cable, or it's slipped at the other end. Get it fixed soon.
Welcome to the forum !
go to www.stephygee.com and look for a workshop manual
Do the work yourself - it's very satisfying and much cheaper !!

Welcome to the site, Wheatville! Yep, certainly sounds like a throttle cable. Maybe the tube but not as likely I suppose. I've had the same thing happen on dirtbikes.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

Twas the cable. It was the lower or shorter of the two throttle cables that had gone. It had snapped in the middle where rust had started to settle in. All fixed now though. Also stripped and cleaned the carbs while i was there so it's running much better now

cheers
Lee
