Default Nightmare in Le Mans

Hi all ! Just got back from a weekend away in Le Mans to watch the French Moto gp.I have a really original 1996 Honda CBR 600 FV . Trouble is i got within 15 mins of the circuit and pulled into a garage to refuel. And after refueling my bike wouldn't start! The lights on the dash were very dim, tried bumping the bike & it started as soon as i put the lights on it died again! Bumped it again, it started left the lights off and pulled away as soon as i touched the brake & brake light came on it died. We came across a french lad who had a set of jump leads. We connected the batteries together and i had a nice bright dash and the bike started on the button left it running for a few mins as soon as we removed the leads it died. Anybody have any idea what the likely cause ? I have had to leave my pride & joy over in France & hoping to get it back soon. This bike has never let me down in the 10 years i have owned it!

Si

Welcome to the forums!! :-)

How old is the battery??

Often with some bikes the battery needs to be in a good state of charge because it needs the coilpacks energising
in order to fire up ... a flat battery or nearly flat battery could give you starting issues.

Let us all know and good luck!! :-)

Hi Jules

The battery is only around a year old. But the bike has been sitting in my garage for the winter. It has had a few long runs out lately and there were no signs of a weak battery !

Hey Si :-)

If the battery is not weak then the only other thing I can think of is a bad earth or battery connection ...you said your lights went dim and as you braked this would have taken power from the battery too ..does sound like a flat or duff battery but a bad connection can give similar issues ..good luck finding the problem :-)

Hello & welcome speedy!
Sounds to me like you might have a bad battery seeing that you didn't have it on a charger over the winter.
Good luck!

Hey there Speedysi, sorry to hear about your rotten luck! Hopefully you watched the race. Good luck with your fix and try posting it in the General Tech and/or the F3 Section for more helpful insights. Stay safe.
