Default Newbie to road bikes almost

Hello all,

Just swapped my last bike from a Yamaha XT660X to a 98 CBR600F. Had a fair few XT's just fancied a change. Swapped it for this 98 plate CBR600F3 (I think!). I fancied a nice smooth as silk bike. Its a fair old culture shock this old skool CBR lark!

The bike is almost standard, previous owner chopped the rear mudguard, tidied the rear end a little, crash bobbins, single seat. I took the Scorpion slip-on off and put the standard one back on, I prefer it. The stock bike has enough go for me.

The bikes chain has a bad tight spot so I am just about to swap the whole thing including new sprockets and replace the tyres, the rear is squared off rear etc.

Great forum, I need to have a good read up of the stickies to see if there is anything i should know.

Here is a picture of the bike as it is now.

Tony

Thanks for all the comments guys, the forums a great resource. Putting the new chain and sprockets kit on in the week once the mini grinder arrives then its off to get a new set of Michelin 2CT's for it. That should sort out the handling.

Just fitted the chain and sprocket kit, a nice easy job to be honest, the how to section on here really helped as well (thank you). Its made a huge difference, nice and smooth, it has now highlighted how poor the worn/squared tyres are. Thats the next job and that should be it really. Just put the miles in then!

Yep, chain & sprocket install isn't rocket-science.

Amazing the dif that a new chain & sprocket can have. Get those new tires & you'll really enjoy it!

Well guys just a note to say i loved the cbr but a deer hit me yesterday so i am now in lots of pain, broken ankle, finger, wrist swolen, the list goes on. Pics to follow but the bike has been sold already as a track bike project.

Excellent bike and thank you for all the info on this excellent site.
